TOPIC: Trade Talk

Not too early to start speculating.
Is it still worth making an offer for Jeremy Sharp (GCS)?
Is Nick Martin (Ess) worth making an offer for? More particularly is he available? I'd even use Henry in some sort of trade deal.
Aaron Naughton? No chance or some chance?
Sean Darcy for Logan McDonald? Would this be a viable possibility? What about Sean Darcy for Tim English?
I know JL has said we will be low key during the trade and draft period but?

I can do a short run down of your questions.

I) No offer will be required as he's out of contract, not getting a game for GC and will almost certainly be delisted. Should we pick him up when they do that, absolutely. At most he's a worthless late round pick that GC will only use to acumulate points to match their 3 top 10 academy draftees.
II) Martin is contracted and not available. My understanding is he has no real interest in coming back to Perth.
III) Naughton would cost far more than we have and isn't worth it. So no.
IV) Sean Darcy is contracted, loves the club and is our reigning best and fairest. He's going no where and talk of trading him is silly. McDonald has a contract with Sydney and is likely to stay there for a while now Buddy's left.
V) Darcy for English is stupid for so many reasons. Darcy kills him each time they play and if English were to miraculously find his way to Freo, he'd come into the side at the expense of Jackson as the mobile 2nd ruck. Basically it's never gonna happen so don't bother.

The only real movement news is likely to be Henry on the way out and trying to get as high a pick in return for him. I don't see any likely young West Aussies looking to come home that would add anything to our side so finding a way to turn Henry and the rest of our picks into a package deal to nab some of Gold Coasts early selections is probably the ideal solution. Use the GC pick to grab Curtin. It's a pipe dream though.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

One of the pundits on Purple Reign suggested Mitch Georgiades from Port Adelaide, he played PSA at Hale I gather same as Raz. Would that be a like for like in value for Liam Henry?

Georgiades did his ACL during the year so who knows how he recovers from that but he was in and out of the side before he did it and struggling to get a game let alone play well. It's worth noting a big part of his game was his spring and leap for someone who is slightly undersized for a key forward so an ACL is a very rough injury for him to recover from.

He's not quite big enough in the modern game to be a main target up forward so he ends up as the third tall which is not something I'd pay much for. If he came back free then I'd give him a list spot to see how he recovers but I'd much rather Jackson, Amiss and Treacy let alone Tabs or Sturt. I wouldn't pay much for anyone who is not an automatic best 22 inclusion.

Henry is a top 10 pick who has proven why he was a top 10 pick this year. We've put the development into him and you'd expect a top 10 pick in return, at least a 1st rounder.

Given our deficiencies what is the wish list?

I actually don't know. To me it's all there. Maybe two tall decent midfielders but that is Johnson and Erasmus.

In this order, I reckon we need some genuine outside run. a young or back up tall defender, and a small forward who hits the scoreboard.

So, we should grab Sharp. Not sure why he dropped off the scene because he seemed to have pace and skills.
From the above comments it would seem that Henry is our most viable trade prospect. I'd take a top 10-15 pick for Henry ad perhaps as a sweetener, pick 39 (our second pick in the draft).
I know it goes against the grain but Darcy is still tradeable in my view for the right offer. Can we trade Darcy for a top 10-20 pick to get Mitch Edwards (PT)?
We need to get into the first round in the upcoming draft.

We need to trade out the best ruck in the comp so we can draft in a new one that will take 5 years to develop?
Keep the horizon in the distance. It's a bout the journey.

Jackson and Edwards would be a great ruck combo. Note we will finish either 14th or 15th this year. In my opinion we will take another 2-3 years at least to get back to contending for a premiership. Jacko and Edwards will be there well and truly by then. Mind you I think our chances of getting Edwards who is currently about 14th in the top 20 picks are pretty slim unless we trade out Henry or Darcy. I would suggest that WCE will definitely take Curtin as their first pick and probably Edwards if he's still available as their second pick (21). If Edwards drops to 20 (our first pick currently) should we take him? Yes.

We don't need anyone, keep Henry and we put development into what we have. A couple of tall defender prospects over the next 2 years would be handy, they don't have to be top 20 picks, given the talent spotting skill of our recruiters.

Could we make a play for Ben McKay and consider moving Cox to the forward line? That mark and goal from Cox against Port was a ripper!

What is the logic in trading out the best young ruck in the AFL?! Let alone for anything that isn't multiple top 10 selections, preferably multiple top 5 selections. That's ludicrous.

Mitch Edwards was projecting as a top 10 selection a year ago but has not done much this year to prove that. Most have him sliding to around pick 30 if not later and he is even a chance to last to pick 40 and let us match him as a NGA kid. he's no world beater and is skinny as a rake. It would be years before he looked like he could stand tall in the ruck let alone have an impact. He's a project and not someone you waste your early pick on. Nor is he something we need right now as he's more of a mobile ruck like Jackson.

I'm not sure what the logic is for wanting to trade out the contracted best ruckman in the comp who loves the club for a beanpole project that plays very differently and would be years away from doing anything. And that's coming from someone who likes to bring in youth.
