He took no consideration for Spargo's well-being and it resulted in Spargo having his head collide firmly with the ground. You can't let that happen any more. When you tackle in a way where the other player has no control over where their body goes, and no ability to protect themselves, you have the responsibility to make sure they are safe.

Whether they have consistently applied the rule or not, this has to be the correct decision for the safety of the players.

Accepting that it was a dangerous tackle (The player was brought to ground with out being able to protect himself from possible injury), I am still not sure what made it medium rather than low impact. Spargo did not seem too affected by the incident. Is there more information than the video of the incident?

I assume because the impact rating is arbitrary, and just used to pretend something entirely subjective is objective.

I reckon medium is about right though. Severe should be anything where you are visible rattled by the hit.

I don't think there was any "ing" in the sling-tackle and no "D" in a dump, so then it was more of a "Slump" tackle, but I do think there was also an added chicken-wing component...

I think they are being consistent re: dangerous tackles

It's the seemingly disproportionate punishment when compared to reckless bumps that has me stumped

I thought Jackson copped one that was just as bad, but he didn't even get a free kick.

Morgan MRP Jaeger is cited 11 months 1 week ago #21

Morgan
I think these calls are among the most difficult for MRO. To me it’s a clear slinging action, O’Meara had the arm pinned, but there was probably marginal impact. This could have gone either way, and if the umpire hadn’t paid the free kick then perhaps this sneaks past the MRO.

But if you’re going to lean one way or the other, then I think the MRO / AFL has to lean towards this being a suspension just based on the consequences. A touch more force, or a slightly different body angle, and Spargo gets a serious concussion which can have serious consequences for his career and health. With the suspension, Freo loses its 16th most important player for one home game against a team 15th on the ladder.

And I say all this despite irrationally despising Spargo beyond all reason. I can’t really put my finger on why. In fact, one of the upsides of the suspension is that re-watching the incident you get to see Spargo bad miss a crucial shot at goal, which is quite satisfying.

I don't think you should be allowed to bring the player to the ground. You tackle to dispossess the player of the ball. If they go to ground so be it. But no motion that brings them to ground.

No concussion, no ankles getting caught.

Sydney and Carlton are appealing their reports, crickets from us.

He was holding the arm, zero chance for the tackled player to be able to brace for the fall or roll to improve the landing position. Was probably acceptable for 80% of his career but no longer seen as necessary in today's game.

We’re appealing the one match ban. With good reason:
Spargos arm is free and makes contact with the ground.
Jaeger does not pin both arms in the tackle
No head contact with the ground only his shoulder
Should be thrown out

I don’t see how it can be classified as a dangerous tackle, the tackle was around the hips and going lower as they both went to ground. Dangerous tackles are usually above the waist where the arms can get pinned

He pinned Spargo's arm and slung him. Stupid challenge.
