So you get the idea that things that happen are the result of choices people make but you can't get the idea that the AFL didn't have to play Fremantle and the Gold Coast in Adelaide.

That is my point.

If someone had asked me to devise a way to get the lowest crowd and the lowest tv ratings for a Fremantle game, I wouldn't have done as good a job as the AFL has done here.

What's the handle on all this? Has someone offered a big pile of money to the AFL? How did a relatively small city manage to essentially own a national competition for a week?

I'm trying to understand the business case.

I still maintain if it's purely development, then fantastic. But don't you then hold it in a developing region?

The AFL put it up for auction, after QLD and WA had forked out big to host GFs in the covid years, NSW and SA were the only bidders.

It may be a “neutral” round in that no one loses a home game, but it sucks for the teams that travel every second week as it means back to back away games (we are apparently playing in SA the week before and having a mini hub) not sure what the eagles, Swans, GWS, Lions or Gold Coast are doing.

No doubt the Vic teams will all get an “away” game in vic the week before or after so only have to fly to the special round.
