Mundy changed from publicly declaring he was happy playing, feeling great and wanted to play as long as he could to a few weeks later announcing his retirement. If we needed more midfield depth, he was killing it as the rotation off the bench playing almost every game and averaging 22 quality touches. There was plenty going on behind the scenes that we'll eventually hear about.

JOM has a degenerative knee problem and has clearly lost his speed and power which has seen him pushed out of the starting Hawk midfield rotation. He had one good game this season (against us) and was pretty much useless for the rest of the year. He'd been in and out of their side in the 2yrs before that with various injuries and ailments as he got older. If you were worried about Mundy's ability to play out the season, you should be far more worried about JOM's.

Adding JOM at the age of 29 for reportedly a 4 year contract is absolutely short sighted and dumb. Nevermind the reports we're going to use a pick around 21 to pay for him to be midfield depth, it's ridiculous. If he's anything other than free, we've done something horribly wrong.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Totally agree. If we are worried about coverage while younger players mature or because Fyfe is no certainty to play regularly, talk Mundy into another year (or don’t let him go in the first place).

Is he any chance of becoming another Burgoyne and playing 150 games for his new club with a bung knee that miracously recovers? Can we back in our medical team?
At his best he is an A grader....Many were writing Cripps off last year too

Uh oh.

Meanwhile 7 Perth’s Ryan Daniels reports Hawthorn midfielder Jaeger O’Meara has requested a trade to Fremantle.

O’Meara, from WA, had interest from GWS and the Dockers.

"I don't think from a draft pick point of view it's going to be too difficult to complete from the Dockers' side of things."

"Lloyd Meek would probably be the one to unlock that deal."

The primary argument against getting him seems to be that a bloke who has retired would be better. I mean, sure, I reckon Pav at age 40 could probably hit the scoreboard more than Treacy, but only one of them will be on the list next year.

I liked Acres and Tucker, but again, as of 12 October 2022 they are not on our list, and if I'm being honest and I had to choose between those two or O'Meara for the 18th spot on the team I'd take O'Meara.

Hawthorn were reasonably competitive last year and O'Meara finished 7th in their best and fairest. Despite his injuries he's only missed a dozen or so games in the last 5 years. He might not be an elite midfielder anymore, but he could log some good minutes and provide reasonable cover inside to rest Brayshaw or Serong and cover if they are injured.

You're right it will all come down to the trade and salary. Meek is a useful plodder, but as our fourth best ruckman I reckon I'd rather have O'Meara on the list if it came to it.

For mine the primary argument against JOM is who is he keeping out of the side?
Also who are we not able to draft because we have used our pick? It is a bit of opportunity lost.
The only strong case for it is that they feel our midfield is a little underdone and we need experience there and maybe Fyfe is more injured than they are saying...

That's it... trade Fyfe to the Gold Coast, where the surf is 24/7 and the summer is endless...

Agree MON. Bell claimed that Acres leaving wasn't a great issue as we could easily cover that loss with Henry, Worner or Johnson. He's also another person probably stopping Erasmus from getting more game time.

I listed half a dozen options I'd prefer to spending anything on an aging mid who has lost the abilities that made him a great player in the past. Mundy and Tucker leaving is not so much in reference as a potential counter to getting JOM now, more so that them leaving was intended to open the door to some of our kids to get opportunity and development.

If they were leaving so that Erasmus and Johnson have a chance to develop their games and get the right football education, why are we all of a sudden switching it up now and complaining we don't have enough depth? It makes no sense. We could have better depth if we retained those players rather than throwing money and draft picks at JOM who is no better than those options. The argument we need depth and JOM is good for depth makes no sense, your primary argument makes no sense.

Back to Sharp. WA boy wants back to WA. 20 years old and I think a player of great potential on the wing and potentially elsewhere as he gets older. I'd give the f2rnd they are asking for Sharp. This is still a possibility reading the body language of the GCS list manager in the last 20 mins.

He doesn't have a degenerative knee you made that up. He hasn't lost speed. Stop saying things cause you know they'll go unchallenged. Otherwise we'll start calling you hypen.

Or Shane.

Probably Shane.

Actually it makes perfect sense.
I said the primary argument against JOM is who is he keeping out of the side.. I didnt answer the question because it is obvious ...he is keeping Erasmus and Johnson out of the side..
That said I listed other reasons why JOM was not in our best interests.. then said the only reasons I could think of as to why we would trade him in... Maybe read the full response before critiquing it..

Most players appear to get traded to the destination of their choice currently.

Meek wants to go to Hawthorn and Freo needs something in return. Players, picks, or a combination.

O'Meara is an OK player to swap for Meek. He is cut like a god and would be a good training influence on the young group if nothing else.

Is he better than Tucker, Blakeley & Crowden who couldn't get games this year - yes, probably. He can fight to win a spot in the team like the aforementioned guys failed to do. Tucker isn't exactly joining the Geelong midfield.

But anything more than a 2 year deal sounds too much. Given O'Meara's age, I would give him a 2 year deal with a KPI extension option.

WRT who's taking Mundy's spot in the midfield rotation? Um, that would be the captain, everyone. He's pretty good in that position.

O'Meara, Johnson & Erasmus all have to push our starting ruck out of the 23, it's up to them. It's a great position to be in.
