He's still good. Sam Mitchell won't play him and Mitchell through the midfield that's why the both want out. O'Meara came seventh in their Best & Fairest playing off a flank.

His injury was Pattelofemoral Syndrome which is not ligaments tearing.

He's a cracking get.

Premiership teams need depth through the midfield. Remember that Fyfe aside, we had an unprecedented great run with injuries last year. Assuming Fyfe won't log many midfield minutes, JOM is not a bad proxy for Mundy.

I'm ok with it.

So apparently the GWS offer of pick 19 for JOM is conditional that the hawks pay his entire salary for the remainder of his contract!
We are apparently offering 4 years to smooth out his contract, which means we shouldn’t be paying much in terms of picks.

Anyone else starting to notice something about long term high paying contracts.

O'Meara, WTaF?

Hasn't he had like 4 knee reconstructions and is about 35-years-old?

I saw Anthony Morabito selling property in Joondalup last year and he looked like he could play again, no probs.

If we needed more depth Morgan, why not offer Mundy another year to go around? He was already playing at a much higher level than JOM, is a far superior footballer in general, is a leader, a club legend and wouldn't cost us anything at the trade table.

Or Tucker who was still contracted for another year? We gave him away for little and he's also more impactful than JOM while costing us nothing and a hell of a lot less than the $800K JOM is apparently owed in wages next year.

I don't buy the argument that we're paying a whole heap for JOM to come in as required depth. I'd rather give Crowden a run in the middle. Hold onto Blakely for 1 more year. Give Erasmus and Johnson exposure. Get Fyfe fit. Push up a defender and play Wilson in the 22. Let Hughes have a go running through the middle.

There are so many better options than paying a large portion of our salary cap and more trade capital for a bloke who has shown little in the past few years but a lot of niggles, an aging body and restricted football.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I wasn't impressed with Jaeger O’Meara from what I saw this season.
Maybe it was because of Hawthorn team mates putting him under pressure or hes trying to hard as his ball use was average.

O’Meara is a good footballer yes but the move for him doesn’t quite sit right with me. His age and history with injury are a massive red flag. It flys in the face of our recruitment strategy and I know of one past player that might raise an eyebrow. Hopefully I’m wrong as it looking more likely that he will be in purple next year.

I don’t know what conversations were had between David and Longmuir last season. It would have been great having David around next year, but he might have been on the fringes of the team, and I’m not sure it makes sense having a legend running around at Peel.

Either way, he’s not here, Tucker wanted to leave, Acres is gone, Longmuir clearly thought Blakely was irredeemable, and now we have a midfield with an average age of around 20 (assuming Fyfe mostly plays forward). All of this is subject to the trade and salary, but I can’t see how adding one 29 year old to the current mix is hurtful, even if it’s for guys like Erasmus and Johnson to have someone else to learn from.

Agree with most of that Morgan. also I loved Dave but he was clearly only able to play 2.5 qtrs a game in the back half of the year. the decline comes hard and fast and I think he was very much feeling that. also, for a lot of players it comes over that next pre-season and then everyone says stayed on too long, should have retired. Dave was absolutely not wanting that. He was just pinching himself to have a career 12 longer than the average.

That aside I wouldn't take JOM for any more than a 4th round pick and $300k per year, and three years (with a trigger to extend) at most. any more than that is folly.
