TOPIC: Bombrés CEO

yeah nah, jcalb.

it's not that difficult to grasp. like it or not, the AFL and its clubs have positioned themselves as leaders in the progressive movement towards diversion and inclusivity.

so, for someone in Thorburn's position, it was a question of integrity. he could not hold both roles or he'd be walking both sides of the line.

The AFL should position itself as an organisation that runs a football comp, not the head office of social engineering. If people are looking to the AFL for moral and social guidance we are all in trouble.

It’s not social engineering. It’s about being a tolerant person and showing respect for others. If you go to church don’t then slag off at others lifestyles.

My god is not a bigot. His is.

I’m sick of so called Christian’s not seeking safety from persecution but seeking safety for the right to persecute.

Yep

He can say and think what he likes but it cuts both ways and I think he is a homophobic transphobic trogolodyte. Freedom of speech comes with consequences. Hopefully he is learning that. You can’t openly insult people and then expect to run an organisation that is inclusive of those people. He’s a hypocrite.

You are confusing having beliefs and having a conflict of interest.

There was a conflict of interest that he held two decision making positions where each organisation held conflicting beliefs.

He chose to step down from the job in the AFL. He could have gone the other way and stepped down from his role in the church.

Neither option involved him changing his own beliefs or ideas.

The Church should position itself as an organisation that runs a place to worship, not the head office of social engineering.

should be easy enough for a modem upstart church with a board and a chair.

as Chair of the Board, surely Thorburn is basically the Pope?

Slippery slope, schmope!

Don't lose sight of where I started all this where a bloke at the wheel of a bank infused with poor behaviours, culture and an expanding list of cases of unconsionable conduct being given the job at the head of another mob whose recent history is littered with happenings of a similar ilk.

That he happens to be the chair of another organisation with very exclusive views on other things is just another straw that adds to the pile of things that an employer doing its job properly in recruiting should look at to decide whether said bloke is the right fit for the position.

Notwithstanding the dubious vibes of said bloke doing other stuff for the club - including making recommendations about coaching and club leadership positions - then being encouraged by the old blokes to whom he is reporting to put his own hat in the ring for one of those positions.

How much double downing on successive double downs by Essendon does it take to learn what is acceptable these days?

A church exist for no other reason than social
engineering. The AFL has other priorities.

Slippery slope - when is the press release from Sydney about cancelling their sponsorship with QATAR airways. When does Collingwood announce they can no longer take money from Emirates as some of their core values don’t align with theirs or the AFL.

If a supporter takes a flight with QATAR airways, do we ban them from going to the footy.

Sounds ludicrous but the hypocrisy dished out by the AFL is unbelievable. I bet if you look deep enough with any sponsor you can find misalignment of values with AFL. Gambling, Alcohol etc. I don’t particular care that Essendon sacked the bloke but you can be half pregnant when navigating with the moral compass.

Slippery slope indeed, what happens when Clarkson and Fagan join the new Church of Kennet which says that being indigenous is a sin
