There's too much of it and the AFL won't do anything tangible to fix it. They'll just run some ads about the evils of social media.

If the AFL were to stand Clarkson (and Fagan) down as is being speculated by some in the media - what does this to do North Melbourne? What does it mean for the players that have requested trades there? I know this (e.g. coaches being stood down) is pure speculation but if the content of this report is investigated and found to be true - it would not be outside the realm of possibility that those involved are stood down. Horrible, horrible findings.

Gut churning. I don't believe there is anywhere to hide against such testimony, even after hearing part of one side. Premierships at any cost takes on a different, dark slant. Hawthorn and Clarkson just cruised past the Eagles as public enemy No.1. And Fagan for his complicity. If Burt tries a Nuremberg defense that would complete a triumvirate of evil.

That the AFL allowed this to occur and fester with no mechanism to short circuit is an indictment itself. I can't believe that we are only hearing about such consistent behaviors now, and full credit to those who have spoken up. If Gil wasn't leaving his head should be on a pike.

I hope this acts as a trigger for the Freo admin to conduct its own review in our relationships with past and present Freo players. Collingwood and Hawthorn are right to be the focus right now – this report is genuinely shocking – but I reckon if you scratch the surface at any club – including ours – there is a reasonable chance there have been decisions and interactions that have hurt indigenous players.

Freo can’t change those other clubs or the AFL, but I reckon it has a duty to investigate its own actions. Even if we’ve been perfect, there is nothing to be lost by reaching out to our past indigenous players about their time at the club, and plenty to be learned.

The players concerned need to lay charges of workplace bullying and harassment leading to emotional distress. If the veracity of this report is confirmed (and that is the first step), then a full inquiry at the highest levels of the AFL must proceed immediately. This situation goes beyond the AFL and in the end a civil suit for damages must be pursued.

In addition to the more important points that have already been raised, I hope that we get some clarity on the role of Paul Marsh and the Players Association. How connected are they to the players they are meant to represent and support? If this occurred within the last decade, what did they know and what did they do (before they got the Hawthorn report)? What are they doing to assess all clubs and their treatment of indigenous players? How much confidence do indigenous players have in the Association and its willingness to connect and represent them when dealing with these allegations?

There should never again be an incident where an Indigenous/First Nations could not feel comfortable going to the top to get immediate action. No point going to a white commissioner and not feel comfortably being heard and incidents actioned.
