Unfortunately for Meek, Freo have a very high expectation of a ruckmans output - having Sandilands and Darcy for the best part of the last two decades, we have always had a top 5 competition ruckman at worst.

Meek is an average ruckman who would be a leading ruckman at probably 4 or 5 clubs in the league, but won’t get regular time at Freo as a second ruckman because he is a worse forward than Logue was (who is also average).

He's a medium defender which is probably the position we have the most competition for already. That and I wouldn't be too keen to blow so much money on a player who is unlikely to be best 22.

One club is going to make a killing though.

Purple- AFL has reported they are now comfortable with these pay dump trades. Clubs need to wake up that taking on these dumps is playing into their opponents hands as they set up their list.

Gold Coast made Will Brodie and this guy very attractive but are actually getting rid of past list errors to have a major crack at a flag over the next 5 years. Would you rather GC with this guy or them targeting a far better free agent that perfectly fits their list weakness.

We are in a similar premiership window as GC along with Collingwood, Carlton, Sydney +++. All of the clubs need to think, do we want to take the small gain to provide our opposition a bigger advantage.

So that's what we're going for - now that we've got defenders coming out of our ears, we need big ruck/forwards? I disagree - even if Jacko comes in, we've got Benning, Kuek and Treacy in the magoos. What we need are speedy wingers that can kick well and hold a tackle.

And someone to kick goals that lasts more than a handful of games in a season.
