TOPIC: Luke Jackson

Lobb’s having his best year yet and enjoying playing footy in a successful side. If we get Jackson it’s a straight swap in immediate talent but with a longer upside. I’m a big Griffin Logue fan given his super short time in the forward line with his tank and marking ability. Add Jackson to the team and it’s a headache for defensive coaches in 2023. We are flag material in 2023-2026 with an ever improving Jackson AND Logue.

The only way I think it will work is if Lobb is going out the door, hopefully we can get a second round pick and a later pick, not sure anyone would give anything higher, but if he can continue his current form for the rest of the year you never know what Bell could extract from a team in need. Jackson would be good but I must admit Im nervous we will pay too much in pics and we’ve had such a bad history of big trades being train wrecks.
I look at our list and usually there’s easily 3-4 players that could be delisted at the end of the year to free up list space, but this year for the first time I think even our fringe players have some value and could be traded.

Keep Lobb and get Jackson. This years first round next years first round and Meek for Jackson and Melbournes 2nd round pick.

I don’t see why we need to trade Lobb to get Jackson. I think the money is there regardless as Freo have planned for this. Meek will likely request a trade if Jackson is on the way in and we have Benning Developing. Make Lobb honour his contract and say to him we will trade you to your team of choice at the end of next year if you still want to leave. Melbourne will want more than draft picks no doubt but we hold the cards if Jackson nominated Freo.

I can only imagine that Jackson would be a target if the club knows that Lobb is going. Having Lobb and Jackson in the same team would create headaches for the next few years. Lobb, Jackson, Tabs and Darcy don’t fit into the same team. The other option is that the club decides that Tabs continual injuries mean that he drops down the pecking order and then you have Lobb and Jackson as key targets - it might work?

Absolutely it would work. Jackson doesn’t force Lobb or Tabs out of the team. He can play almost any position on the ground in my opinion.

Forgot about Benning, Bozza. Bit concerned about his development though as he is still playing ressies at Peel.

Benning is a long term prospect. There is no rush with him. Jackson, Lobb, Darcy and Treacy provide the immediate ruck options if Meek leaves.

Looks like Lobb is going. Then Jackson is an obvious replacement. Lobb is further along the development curve, and Jackson has more upside.
If Lobb wants to go to a Vic team why not directly to Melbourne. They are massively in the window, and their demographic is slightly older than ours. Jackson fits the age profile of our list. Lobb is on very good money rumoured to be 600-700k. This goes a long way to paying Jackson.
Meek will be in demand and could be tempted by a club offering him the opportunity to play each week, and lead the ruck. This will leave us short a back up ruck should be able pick one up for a lower pick.
Lobb plus a a couple of first rounders should be close to getting it done.

We got pick 6 and third rounder for Cerra which I thought was unders.
Lobb is likely to go if he sustains his form he’s worth a high second with a little sweetener thrown in.
Jackson has more value than Cerra, he has shown more at the same age. He won a rising star, and is a tall Forward/Ruck. He would offer years of ruck partnership with Darcy, Brayshaw, Serong, Erasmus, Johnson.
Hopefully Amiss and Treacy develop well as the other tall forwards
