TOPIC: Luke Jackson

We all know the forwardline mix has been near irrelevant with the way we've played over that period Morgan, we were rebuilding. Additionally, the way we play is not an attack at all costs style so it's not going to be ranked no1 in the comp and it's not a reflection of the players in the forwardline.

In terms of Jackson being a forward, that's not neccessarily where he'll play and he won't be a Lobb/Tippett. He is far more athletic than those guys and while he can take a big grab, he's not your stay at home full forward. He's a mobile type who will run around the ground and put on a heap of ground ball pressure while being a good focal point. Given our strong tackling and forward pressure game, I think he'll fit in perfectly. Especially with our slingshot style, he'll cover ground well and get out the back often with a mismatch. Jackson will probably suit our style up forward far more than Lobb to be honest.

Also, that article with King and Cornes is a laugh. They have no idea about Freo players. "Darcy can't play anywhere else" and then talking about moving him on, not having any understanding of why Lobb might be leaving, Fyfe playing forward because we "need a marking option forward". They clearly know nothing about Freo.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I think Jackson has s a similar player to Blicavs. He will s a good runner and has a good tank. He might play forward but could also play high forward / wing.

He could play a similar role to Logue up forward but probably better. He has a good mark and can find the ball.

We will need to trade up to get the picks Melbourne will want 2 round one picks or a round one and quality player. Be interesting what we get for Lobb but Logue may also be in play and he’s worth a decent pick for us. Might be Lobb and Logue out for improved draft picks and our 2 top picks for Jackson.

We only have our 1st rd pick and a 4th rd pick (somewhere 70+ most likely).

What we can, our first pick this year (15+ most likely) and next year (also 15+ most likely) along with Lobb or Meek (Lobb most likely). They won't get any of our contracted Vics like Brayshaw, Serong and Young so ignore any mention of them.

That's not getting it done Bizkit and you know it. And it's too much. You just gave up two Matt Johnson's and Lobb. No way. He's good but we have better leading the ruck at present.

Bloody got Tim Kelly written all over it.

I disagree, it depends on the strength of the drafts. Giving away two picks later than 15 plus Lobb at the end of his career is something I'd do in a heartbeat for Jackson. I'm sure everyone would know I value the draft quite well and i don't see the pick we get at the end of the year delivering anywhere near the player Jackson is. Same for next year and add in Lobb who only has a couple years left. I would do that deal in a heartbeat.

If Jackson's draft were re-selected, he'd move up to no 1 and as a tall, that's huge. He is well worth what I suggest we give up. We would likely get a later pick in return for that deal.

Do you want to add one absolute superstar to our list or two mid tier players? We have plenty of mid tier players at present and can fill a 22 easily with those players. We need superstars and now is the time to hand over draft picks for them.

Picks are king when you're rebuilding or years from flag contention.

Once you're within potential striking distance of a flag, you need an extra injection of class *now*. Not in 2 or 4 years time. Now.

Certainly you don't want to get completely ripped off, and certainly, you need to still get youth or you'll drop away to obscurity.

But draft picks are no longer king when you're in striking distance.

If Lobb is leaving, then get Jackson in.

But Jackson is not a superstar. Thats the problem. He`s maybe a potential superstar.
For Freo he wont play #1 ruck.
He wont play as our main key forward or even permanently forward.
Exactly where does he play? Are you suggesting he plays as an old fashioned ruck rover like Blicavs, who on occasions rucks?

Darcy can't go alone, he needs some support.
Tabs only plays half the year.
Meek is a good replacement for when Darcy isn't playing, but not in the same 22.
Who replaces Lobb?

Jackson isn't a superstar yet. Signs point that he's not far off. More importantly he is a goodt replacement for Lobb. Who else do we get instead? He's what we need if Lobb leaves, so get him. Don't pay a ridiculous price, but he is more important to us than a low 1st round pick, and we only have a late first round pick

I have little doubt that Jackson can further develop as a forward. He played as one in the U18s and the Deedums haven't put much into his craft as a forward because of their glut of forward talent.

The dual role thing I always find a bit suspicious - if you need an auto mechanic don't look for one that can also bake pastry. Having said that, Jackson can change a game from going into the ruck - he did on one occasion in the U18s against Vic metro, turned and won the game for WA.

If Lobb goes which seems inevitable, that leaves us with the perennially injured Tabener, the hasn't come on yet Treacy and the unproven Amiss. Or perhaps Logue?
So the options would be to get Jackson or draft another even younger key forward. That Jackson is the better of those two options is a no brainer, but we don't want a Kelly scenario to get him.
I can't see Meek staying as he could easily get a regular game at another club, but not with us as he'll only do what he is now, the occasional game to replace a tall who is injured. We could get a reasonable trade pick for him that could be thrown into the mix, as proven ruckmen are hard to come by.
That would mean though that we will need to draft another young ruckman to provide back up as Darcy and Jackson alone is not enough.
Anyone know if Naughton is homesick?
