Melbourne want 2 first rounders at least one in the top 10 picks and a third pick.

Let Ooftits pay this ransom. Go with the draft. He’s not worth it.

The only other club interested in the home coming LJ for obvious reasons would be WCE. They would have to use their pick 2 one way or another which, unless they are fools, they won't. So really, we just have to stick to our offer. We could add the future 4th that we got from NM but that's as far as we should go.

Meth toast are compelled to use their 1st rounder this year as they haven't the last 2. Their pick 2 is going nowhere.

I'm pretty sure they have to use this year's 1st rounder on the draft (# 2 or back for F/S). They have traded the last 2 years 1st round picks away.

I think it's 4 years since the OOFTIT's used a first round pick so they need to use one this draft. They can swap pick 2 for two first rounders but they need to find a club willing to do that and provide a pick higher than we have. There aren't many sides I can see wanting to do that. Sydney have two first round picks but both come after our pick 13 so that wouldn't see the OOFTIT's beat our offer and I don't know why Sydney would want pick 2.

Their other option is trading pick 20 up into the first round which will also cost them a lot and seems incredibly unlikely. For reference, GWS just traded their pick 21 to Brisbane in return for pick 15 and their future 2nd round pick, a huge payment to move 6 spots higher in the draft.

In summary, I can't see any way the OOFTIT's offer anything meaningful for jackson and I'm sure Freo know that. Freo have no reason to offer any more than the two first rounders they have so far and until the OOFTIT's do offer something better, we shouldn't change our offer. If the Demons refuse to deal for our two first rounders which is a fair trade for mine, then they can let him go in the pre-season draft where the OOFTIT's will snap him up. That option makes no sense for Melbourne though.

Have a listen to what Walls says about the Jackson deal and how we're handling it from around the 3min mark here. he explains that Melbourne are in a tight spot due to Jackson being out of contract and they basically have to accept the best offer from us or the OOFTIT's. So far, our offer is far and away better.

Also, Tim Gossage is a goose. His ranting about Lobb was completely ridiculous and Walls handled his idiocy well.

This is interesting regarding West Coast's pick 2...

"Talks have been held on a three-way deal that would see North Melbourne end up with picks 1 and 2, while Jason Horne-Francis gets to Port Adelaide.
Foxfooty.com.au’s David Zita first reported details of the mooted plan on Wednesday night’s edition of Trading Day.
It would see West Coast getting involved, effectively splitting its current No.2 pick for Port Adelaide’s No.8 pick and future first-round selection, getting them into a 2023 draft which features more WA-based talent."

Revealed: Three-way mega-deal that can get Horne-Francis home, mean Roos own picks 1 and 2

There was a story a few weeks ago that the AFL would sign off on West Coast using their first pick for Jackson. Either way they could trade down from 2 to get another first rounder, or make a trade to move up from pick 20 to 18.

West Coast might not get him, but it won’t be because they can’t. They’ve got more draft equity than we do which is what Melbourne wants.

" What's the difference between Lobb going and say Horne-Francis"?

Great logic Tim. North Melbourne are prepared to let their player go so you should do the same.

Biz David Walls hit the nail on the head re Lobb. I said a few weeks ago I believe we should hold Lobb to his contract as that extra year at a minimum with him in a forward line is a must to help the development of Amiss and Treacy.

That's interesting Morgan, because if West Coast offer pick 8 plus their 1st pick next year, then that will most likely get the job done.
