Is it set in stone that those who played in the backline this year will play there forever? With Acres leaving, quite a few of them could move up to the wing enabling Logue to play in the backline again.
He chose to go because he was offered more money by a bottom of the league club over a club that will be playing finals.
And at 25 years of age, he's been in the system way long enough to say what you see is what you get.

edit.....I would consider a real clubman more like someone along the lines of Pav/Mundy who stuck with us through thick and thin when offered more to go to home to their original states. Logue is from W.A. so there is no girlfriend or homesickness drawing him away, just money.

Logue for all the bagging he gets here is a real clubman, just watch Old Bull/ Young Buck
Mr Logue - the ultimate clubman, with a debatable amount of innate football talent, who leaves his club for a bit more money, to live in a freezing carp hole, play for a carp club nowhere near the verge of finals, with a masochistic racist bully coach. Yeah!

Some say lowball. I reckon aboutrightball. Norths have gone overball on the word of a knobball manager. All the best to all of them.

We offered Logue way more than we should of to stay and he still left to go to the basketcase that is North, simply for a few more dollars. A real clubman would have loved the big contract we were offering him despite his lack of performance to earn that contract and done what he could to establish himself in our side going forward. Not taken the money and run.

On a side note, Jackson is worth two first rounders. De Koning is a KPD who is barely worth one first rounder, let alone a top 10 pick. They're the same age and De koning only just earned his first gig this season. Jackson has been playing for 3 years in a far tougher and more influential position while performing far better than De Koning. Jackson also has far more scope for improvement than De Koning will ever have while already being a far better player.

For sure.

Just get him.

Don't put too much pressure and expectation on him to carry a huge load. Leave the loading to Brayshaw, Serong, Brodie, Young, Chapman, Cox, Pearce, Erasmus, Shultz and Switkowski and simply let Jackson be the icing on the vanilla slice.

Pink if you like, or white with those weird French chocolate stripes swiped with a knife blade. Whatever, Fremantle need icing. If you pay up for really good icing you are rarely disappointed.

Bizkit, what was Logue on as far as $ and what did we offer him?

I'm not sure what he was on but as a top 10 draft pick and considering we didn't have many stars pulling large salaries over the past 5yrs, it could have been a lot of money for his lack of output. Reports were we offered Logue $500K per year and North trumped it with 6-700K.

Duffield reckons North have put 5 years X >$600K to Logue and reckons Freo put 4 years X $500K.

This is ascertained from his conversations with Colin, also known as Dick, Young plus a wet thumb stuck out in the wind.

Seems a tad over-the-top for a bloke who's played 64 games in 6 years.

Jackson's played 52 in three.

For mine, Logue should be on 350-400K max and even that's high end for a fringe 22 player who has yet to deliver on field through 6 years after being a top 10 draft pick. I would be expecting him to earn his spot and establish himself to earn anywhere near the money Freo offered him, let alone the length of deal.

Add 100K to the contract and that's enough for Logue to throw away his home, mates and club here in Perth? He can go, I have no respect for a few extra dollars when we were already offering well above what he's worth along with a chance at premiership glory.I hope Amiss belts him for the rest of his career and he enjoys his wooden spoons.

5 years x $600,000 = 3 Mill
4 years x $500,000 = 2 Mill

Chances of him being on 1 Mill for the season at Freo at age 29?

I can under stand why moving might be attractive to him if money was what he is thinking about given the injuries he's had and the bashing of being a big body defender.

I can understand it only if money was the sole reason for Logue's decision. I don't know whether there were extenuating reasons for him wanting to shift to a place like Melbourne and a club like Norths, when already a part of a place like Perth and a club like Freo, but if there were, they'd need to be significant, IMO.

I watched a number of Old Bull, Young Bucks, mostly because of Mundy and the other players they would interview, and always found myself getting a little uncomfortable with Logue's cockiness...at times he appeared to be quite impressed with himself, and I didn't ever come away with the thought that he had displayed evidence of being a good clubman.

I understand the difference between $3m and $2m, but both salaries are pretty much in excess of earnings the average person dreams about, even if for only a mere decade or so.

On this topic, I am in complete agreement with Mr Mushroom and Mr Bizkit.

Logue missed a number of games being injured early in his career.

I always enjoyed the play of humour between Mundy and Logue, and give me $3m any day against $2m in an industry where career ending injury is ever present and your looking for another career before your 35 years old.

Just the reduced travel alone playing out of Melbourne must be tempting for all non Victorian based players.

In terms of the money aspect, it shouldn't be forgotten that there's always the option to renegotiate contracts (several of our young stars renegotiated to extend their contracts at what was probably a lot more money than their original contracts). If Griff actually lived up to his value, he could have the 5th year at well over 700K or earlier years above it. For the comparable years, it's a $400K difference.

Then there's the additional costs of living in Melbourne. Higher priced property, groceries, travel back to WA to see family and friends, moving costs and probably plenty more that you wouldn't notice. They add up year after year to eat away the $100K per year difference.

Lastly, I would think there's far more room to gather promotional sponsorships and off field opportunities while attached to Freo opposed to the basketcase that is North. Even more so when you're a club man who is part of a side in a premiership push rather than a mercenary playing for a cellar dweller.

I'd question whether a bump in pay outweighs those things. It'll certainly earn Colin Young a greater cut on his contract but will it be better for Griff overall?
