There you go - Van Rooyen is the bloke you go after, 20 years old and a goal kicker. Perfect.

Go Zurhaar from North. We need a beast in the forward line as our current crop of forwards are soft and flakey

"Said Pollyanna" by Tragic

"We need to draft van Rooyen," said Pollyanna,
In accents most forlorn,
Outside the church, ere Mass began,
One frosty Sunday morn.

The congregation stood about,
Coat-collars to the ears,
And talked of stock, and crops, and drought,
As it had done for years.

"It's looking crook," said Daniel Croke;
"Bedad, it's cruke, me lad,
For never since the banks went broke
Has seasons been so bad."

"It's dry, all right," said young O'Neil,
With which astute remark
He squatted down upon his heel
And chewed a piece of bark.

And so around the chorus ran
"It's keepin' dry, no doubt."
"We need to draft van Rooyen," said Pollyanna,
"Before the year is out."

"The crops are done; ye'll have your work
To save one bag of grain;
From here way out to Back-o'-Bourke
They're singin' out for rain.

"They're singin' out for rain," he said,
"And all the tanks are dry."
The congregation scratched its head,
And gazed around the sky.

"There won't be grass, in any case,
Enough to feed an ass;
There's not a blade on Casey's place
As I came down to Mass."

"If rain don't come this month," said Dan,
And cleared his throat to speak -
"We need to draft van Rooyen," said Pollyanna,
"If rain don't come this week."

A heavy silence seemed to steal
On all at this remark;
And each man squatted on his heel,
And chewed a piece of bark.

"We want an inch of rain, we do,"
O'Neil observed at last;
But Croke "maintained" we wanted two
To put the danger past.

"If we don't get three inches, man,
Or four to break this drought,
We need to draft van Rooyen," said Pollyanna,
"Before the year is out."

In God's good time down came the rain;
And all the afternoon
On iron roof and window-pane
It drummed a homely tune.

And through the night it pattered still,
And lightsome, gladsome elves
On dripping spout and window-sill
Kept talking to themselves.

It pelted, pelted all day long,
A-singing at its work,
Till every heart took up the song
Way out to Back-o'-Bourke.

And every creek a banker ran,
And dams filled overtop;
"We need to draft van Rooyen," said Pollyanna,
"If this rain doesn't stop."

And stop it did, in God's good time;
And spring came in to fold
A mantle o'er the hills sublime
Of green and pink and gold.

And days went by on dancing feet,
With harvest-hopes immense,
And laughing eyes beheld the wheat
Nid-nodding o'er the fence.

And, oh, the smiles on every face,
As happy lad and lass
Through grass knee-deep on Casey's place
Went riding down to Mass.

While round the church in clothes genteel
Discoursed the men of mark,
And each man squatted on his heel,
And chewed his piece of bark.

"There'll be bush-fires for sure, me man,
There will, without a doubt;
We need to draft van Rooyen," said Pollyanna,
"Before the year is out."

With apologies to John O'Brien

You might want to stop quoting Sumich when discussing Jackson WTB, he couldn't count to 10 on his hands let alone have any idea of the figures bandied about for Jackson.

Jackson will be around $7-800K which is about spot on for him. He isn't coming home for the money and contract so mentioning his potential salary being some ridiculous number isn't relevant at all. it's the draft picks spent that will be the question and two late first rounders is a steal for us.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Van Rooyen would be great but he gives us the same sort of option as Amiss, although he can play at both ends of the ground. He's only been at Melbourne for one year so can't see them letting him go.
Zurhaar would be ga really good pick up and has held off contract talks at NM but the one thing all of these options we've been discussing is that none of them can ruck.
I can't see Meek staying as he could get more chances at other clubs, and if Lobb leaves we definitely need another ruck support for Darcy.

Surely Zurhaar doesn't want to go from one basket case to another?

I have to say I couldn’t disagree with Paul Hasleby more here.

I feel like Darcy is being completely undervalued in this thinking, as is team chemistry. We have a young, talented squad, with a young talented AA-calibre ruckman at the centre of it who has already won a B&F who seems very happy to be here, and Hasleby isn’t too worried about how he is feeling about us chasing Jackson?

If I was running Freo I would want to know for sure that Darcy was ok with Freo chasing Jackson and the idea of working in combination. If Darcy indicated he was out on the idea and it would lead to him wanting to leave, then I’d pull the pin on the Jackson deal. I think the idea of chasing Jackson at the expense of Darcy is corrosive not just for Darcy’s relationship with the club but everyone on the list. If we are willing to discard someone like Darcy who else in our young core would we be willing to part with?

We’ve got a good thing going on; I don’t want us to mess with that too much. If what we really need is someone like Logan-McDonald, isn’t the play to try and get someone like Logan-McDonald, rather than get Jackson, then lose Darcy to get the room to sign Logan-McDonald? That’s madness.

As for Meek, I know people are higher on him than me, but the premise that we could lose Darcy because we’ve got Meek, well that seems bonkers to me.

We threw everything at Logan Mac and the end of last year in the hope he wouldn’t sign with the swans this year. He did. Fact is not many players leave the swans and they have a great history of keeping interstate talent. There are a lot of West Aussie boys on their list. He is now contracted until the end of 24 I believe and will be the number 1 key forward at the Swans in the next few years. We have Jye Amiss who is the same size and only a year younger. He is our future number one key forward. With Darcy and Jacksom rotating through the forward line and Treacy to split open the packs we will have a formidable forward line in the years to come. Switta, Shultz, Henry and Sturt should be licking their lips.

To be fair to Hasleby he wrote a similar article about Jackson`s arrival and the impact it would have on Darcy and team morale if Darcy left, that stupid rag probably edited it out just for hits and giggles.

Hasleby titled the article right but the body of it was wrong. Darcy isn't going anywhere and Jackson isn't coming in to take his spot, there's no worry there. Jackson is the most mobile tall to come through since NicNoStat was drafted, he can play as a midfielder or key position player while giving Darcy a chop out in the ruck. Darcy's position is in no danger and any talk of him leaving is silly.

The premise of the article is right, Darcy isn't going anywhere and we shouldn't be worried. The addition of Jackson doesn't change that at all, I'm surprised Morgan was sucked in by it.

Well, in all serious now, could you 'ruck rove' Jackson, or is that just crazy talk, and would unbalance our clearance work? Mundy out, Jackson in, starting 4 Darcy, Jackson, Serong, Brayshaw- plus Brodie who is still impacting big-time with 60-odd percent game time, and guest appearances from Fyfe. And keep Lobb forward for that matter. Its just that Jackson is inferior rucking to Darcy, and inferior forward to plenty currently. I see his strengths at the contest, and also as another contested marking option in transition. Not going to work in the modern game?

Be interesting to see what happens at the end of next year if Darcy plays out the final year of his contract or just eagerly resigns.
