30m out. 47degree angle. Set shot, after a finger tip crunch the pack mark by a strange looking gangly guy who put in an exhausting long run from the wing to get to the contest. I think Nat will miss, and probably both of the other ones in this thread. For local boys, still worth Sumo's alleged future money IMO.

He’d Be a great addition to the club but not at that price as it would impact across other contracts for years to come. If we can learn one thing from the Eagles and the Tim Kelly deal, don’t sell the farm (salary and/or picks for one player.

I’m sure the current recruiting team who have put together our current squad have everything in check. He will get offered what he is worth for the perceived value he will bring. 100% faith in whatever they decide. Would be an awesome addition especially if Lobb decides to bail.

I was trying to work out how I would sort out in my head the salary cap and putting in place a team. I appreciate there are draftees on low salaries, but also there are players not in the best 22 who are on good salaries to prevent them being poached. Based on figures I have just made up, I cannot see how I could risk having one player on 1.5M a year average over a longer term without it stuffing up the rest of the team balance and also future recruiting and retention. Maybe people can explain to me where my assumptions are inaccurate enough to fit a $1.5M/y player into the equation

Backline 3 @ $400,000 $1.2M
Half Back line 3 @ $400,000 $1.2M
Centreline 3 @ $600,000 $1.8M
Half Forward Line 3 @ $500,000 $1.5M
Forward Line 3@ $600, 000 $1.8M
Following Division 3 @ 750,000 $2.25M
Bench 4 @ 300,000 $1.2M
Next 6 6 @ 250,000 $1.5M
The Rest $1.09M

$13.54

I could rejig the table to include a current "marquee" player but it doesn't really alter the actual query which is
Can a team afford to play an individual a $10.5M, 7 year contract without compromising the rest of the list? I can't crunch the numbers in a way I can see it working.

Sumich was pretty clearly wrong and has no idea about math. Even Buddy was no where near that equation.

The $700K mark is about the most anyone is paying for a bloke in his 3rd season who's shown tonnes of promise but is not yet a superstar. Jackson's first season could be towards $1M but that would be balanced by a lot less in later seasons.

Don't forget, Lobb will be on a similar price next season and will be 30 before Rd 1. We have the opportunity to replace him with someone who looks to be a little less of a player at present but with the potential to shoot past him and fill the role for the next decade. The forward/ruck role might be the most difficult position to fill in a team and we could have the best young prospect in the country for it.

I'd easily pay to get our hands on Jackson, even more so because he wants to play for us. He's looking to leave the reigning premiers to return home and play for the club he trained with before getting drafted. You don't turn your nose at that.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Jackson would have to replace Lobb, and on a contract that would not cost us any more, to make the whole thing viable. There are plenty of cases that can be used to argue against throwing buckets of money for a player who might not be playing (through injury, trade, or whatever) in 4 years time.

Where has Jackson said he wants to come to Freo? If the article was claiming 6.5 million over 7 years we could comment on that. In that case I say absolutely let’s see if Lobb still wants to go. He would make the Western Bulldogs immediately a genuine flag chance. However the article is claiming 10,5 million.

Can we all just take a moment to reflect on how lucky we were to avoid having 'Sumichy' as Head Coach.

Is there some form of salary cap concessions for "veteran" players?

That salary seems extraordinary, but a bigger stumbling block is likely to be what is required for the trade with Melbourne. West Coast has a top 2 pick to build a trade around.

I very much doubt two late first round picks (our picks in 2022 and 2023) would be attractive to Melbourne, so we’d need to let go of a player of significant value to get a trade done; something like Hayden Young and key tall like Lobb/Tabs and pick 15 to get Jackson.

We’ve got a really good squad of players who seem to like playing with each other. I really like Jackson, but I can’t see Bell doing that deal.

Forgive me if I missed some detail here but wasn't Lobb looking to be traded last year?
