TOPIC: Logue

Great idea Monty, I'd like to see that if he were to be dropped. Interestingly though JLo doesn't seem to like moving players around from their percieved regular placings. Brennan Cox is a good example of this as he's come out and said he has no intention of moving him forward to bolster our attack on a few occasions.
I can't think of anyone outside of our rebound defender group and maybe Sonny Walters who has been pigeonholed as a forward first and foremost who have been moved around to another position.

Brilliant effort as a decoy forward, May was hardly sighted all game.

He took some great contested grabs and provided a good target up forward. He might have to work on his set shot at goal though.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

The only Freo player to have spent 100% time on ground, does it mean something

ABC Radio commentary picked it as just a tag on May. Subsequently JL (and Freddie) confirmed it.

It worked, he played superbly, but surely it won't be a permanent thing.

Probably not, but it does open up options, and give opposition coaches something to worry about.
(with the exception of Adam Simpson, the last thing on his mind is how Griff Logue would go as a forward.)

I would like to once again take some totally unjustifiable credit, this time for the Logue move. I posted this 5 days ago in response to our recent forward line performances:

“So what are we missing? I keep thinking that we need a midsize athletic forward with some physical presence.”

Yawn, this coaching caper is a doddle. Just read DL and off you go!!

Surely not a permanent thing? Well, it could be. He is a great mark a commanding presence as a disruptor both back and forward. I think we'll see him evolve as a defensive swingman. All good teams play team defence and you need players like Logue and Treacy to stop their rhythm

Hey Walter, stop making a grab for all the credit. You were the one who mocked me for suggesting any comparisons to the swingman role that Pav was used in early in his career. I've been calling for this type of use for Griff for a long time, much to yours and many others' merriment. Griff supplied the marking power and physical presence that has been missing from our forward line and the reason why Treacy has been so appealing. If only he were as good a kick for goal as Treacy.

Now, now Gummy, cool those jets. I only said that Logue is no Pav, which I stand by. He could still be a reasonable swingman but I still wouldn’t be expecting him to reach Pav’s lofty heights. I think his physical presence (which was the point of my post) works well for us up forward at the moment but he does lack a bit of finesse.

Given that Pearce's fragile lower legs are constantly giving me heart attacks, I thought it was a brilliant idea to play Logue forward. If Pearce were to go down, Banfield comes on as a forward, and Logue drops back to his usual role.

Gummy, I don't see any suggestion that you think Griff is going to be another Pav, but I get your thinking re the comparison of roles.I reckon Griff could develop into a more than very useful utility forward, mid and back.
