So Geelong want pick 8 for a fringe player taken at 15 with 1 year left on a contract.
We should accept pick 15 and pay some of his salary for a starting 22, ruck/forward with 2 years to run.
Anyone that doesn’t value Lobb doesn’t see how hard clubs are chasing genuine forward/ruck players. When fit his contested marking has been elite. I watched JVR on the weekend, and he is good but years away from dominating AFL.

Who's saying we don't value or understand his importance? This for me is about commitment and showing you want to be at the club, something I'm not sure is happening in this instance.

It’s just that you are not the one to be making that call unless you’re buying in to the rumourmongerage.

That's been my point all along Corp. I really do like Rory. He's a very effective clothes horse in the Team store and his value to the team on game day has been a match winner but there have been important games where he has gone missing and not seemed to put in 100%. I think in the past we have tolerated this and the mediocrity that comes with having a team that doesn't deliver in must win games however if we want to go further and win a flag we have to have players giving 100% commitment EVERY game. Unfortunately if Rory can't deliver this then he may be better off somewhere else.

"rumourmongerage"... is that a Mushroomian term? I like it.

You're kidding, right?
He didn't play the first, what, five?? games recovering from a knee injury in the why-do-we-bother pre-season games.
When back I distinctly remember him slicing Hawthorn and Sydney a new one and being pretty darn damaging against Brisbane, Collingwood and Gold Coast.
Then looking like he might have ruptured something bad in against Geelong and not playing the last five.

He was better than Michael Walters in 2021.
Book-ended by knee and ankle injuries and probably carrying the effects through the middle too.
Yet you question commitment.

Heads. Read. Get them.

I've never seen anything from Lobb to question his commitment on the field. Playing in Freo's forwardline while we've struggled has to be one of the toughest gigs in the AFL yet Lobb would rank as one of the top 3 forward/rucks in the competition.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

The games against Port, Bulldogs, Carlton and Geelong were pretty important games where he went missing and on occasions during these games his commitment seemed to fluctuate, which for a guy getting paid $700,000 a season is at times a bit disappointing to this dedicated supporter who never misses a game and frequently rewatches the replays of games, even the losing ones. I can only comment on what I see but don't mushrooms grow in dark unlit spaces so you may have seen different games to the ones I've mentioned. We can all have great games where everything the team does works but it's the absolute best of players who perform under adversity when things are a little bit harder. That's why he gets the salary he is paid. As one of the highest paid players he needs to lead at all times by example.

If you want to single out a couple of games including ones where he was injured, that's up to you. I'd suggest it's more of your own bias against Lobb that sees you rate him the way you do. If the side plays poorly then Lobb suffers as he's the bloke on the end of our ball movement chains.

His salary was to get him out of GWS and back to Freo as well as being representative of his value in his role. It shouldn't be used against him in any other context. As I mentioned, he's a top 3 forward/ruck which is an incredibly rare thing in the AFL. He kicked more than a goal and a half a game this season despite his time spent in the middle and braved a pretty nasty injury against Geelong before finally succumbing and having his season ended.

No one on the list is anywhere near capable of doing the things he is with only half a dozen in the AFL as competent both up forward and in the ruck. He's incredibly valuable and we should be holding him to his contract unless a top 10 pick arises.

I'm not biased against Rory. I think his effort last season where he played on with a limp arm after half time was one of the bravest efforts I've ever seen from a Fremantle player, yet this season he hasn't been as consistent on a week to week basis. I'd be glad to have Rory play in our maiden Premiership and get the success he deserves. As I've said in previous posts, his best is both match winning and match saving. Maybe with further development of our game and our younger players this can support his efforts more consistently. I hope so.

I don't see how playing with injury qualifies a players commitment. You could apply that logic to the majority of AFL players and probably more so Fremantle.
And why shouldn't we comment on rumours. It's not like we made them up. This one has been circulating for ages and the club or player certainly haven't gone out of their way to put a clamp on it. Not like say Darcy did earlier this year.
It's actually similar in some ways to the one of GWS wanting to offload Conoglio because he's on so much money and is banged up with injury but other clubs don't want to take on his salary.

Lobb came to Freo saying he was not happy playing as a ruckman, and wanted to be a full forward, full stop. So to say he us totally committed to the team could be questioned, and saying he is in the best 3 forward/rucks in the comp, is going against what we see. And, his variable committment this year seems to indicate he is not all that happy that he is not getting his own way on team selection. Trade him while we can.
