TOPIC: The Draft

We knew what we were getting with Hogan, Lobb, B Hill, (is that the right spelling, Polly?) Acres, et al. My argument is that the top ten picks are much of a muchness, so saying we should get pick 1 for Cerra instead of 8, is no guarantee we win on the deal, and we are just as likely to get a Serong at 10 as at 1. ( or at somewhere in the mid 50's or wherever we drafted Haze, Micky B and Darcy). Freo have done the right thing by Cerra, without worrying about trying to win the poker hand. What goes round comes round.

If we do our homework there is plenty of good West Australian talent in this draft. tall forward /ruck hybrids and midfielders. The talls are well represented and any of JVR, Jack Williams, Josh Cripps, Jye Amiss or Eric Benning would be handy whilst the mids you have Johnson, Sheldrick, Erasmus, Bailey Rogers and a host of others who would go well. Any of these kids plus what we already have would give us a good list to challenge for the finals next season.

Australia is big country.. A get that we have just had Cerra leave but we did pick up Andy and Caleb.. They are a fair bit better than Devon Robertson.. I'm with Belly on this.. Take the best available.. I don't see the obsession with WA players.. These are the only draft prospects that every get mentioned on Dockerland

Whoever we pick, I just hope they don't break down and perennially stuck in rehab.

We should absolutely continue to pick the best available regardless of where they're from. If there are two equal players in our estimates then you can favour the West Aussie but otherwise, you get the best kid you can. You're tying one hand behind your back to avoid good players and hand them to other teams.

There's more talk of the West Aussies due to them having played far more football with the Eastern states season only running for a month or two before Covid killed it off. We've seen a lot more of the WA kids so it's easier to quantify what they bring to the table. Our selections also appear to be where a lot of experts would rate the WA talent so it seems likely we'll grab some.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I think the reason we are all talking about the WA kids this year is there are 3 KPFs in this crop, something we have been crying out for since Pav retired. JVR, Amiss and Williams. That would be my preferred order. Eramus looks like a good Cerra replacement and Johnson a good Mundy replacement. So why wouldn’t we be looking in our own backyard. Not to mention Motlop who is lowest on our list needs but goes alright. The only interstate player I really like is Wanganeen-Milera who looks to be an absolute jet and would keep Clark out of a wing position if we got him.

Cripps is a year older than all the other draft eligible kids but has done some nice things this season. I'd have all of those other talls well ahead of him but he's a chance at a late pick if a club wants to take the gamble.

He's a big boy having reached 199cm and I'd expect him to dominate the colts given his age and size. He's done that in patches this season with a strong month of form towards the second half of the season but wasn't quite able to sustain it for long enough in games. He went a bit quiet in finals and didn't impact as much as I'd like but he's still got a bit of development to go.

To me, it felt like he dominated smaller/weaker opponents but really struggled to impact if up against anyone on a par with him. I'd much prefer a Benning who has far more scope for improvement and is more versatile but will take a few years to build his body.

Just watching AFL trading day and they are speaking about Lobb as if he will end up at GWS done deal. They are saying if he gets there then he has to deliver.
Why the hell isnit every time one of our players is up, the media just assume we have to roll over.
I don’t care if he sits on our list and costs money we need to take a stand.
Lobb and his management have really got me wound up. If he goes I will be booing, if he stays I may boo him louder.

Reporting Clark will be either pick 19 or 22 and future third. Ladhams possibly future first and and third.
How the hell can Lodd be future second round if Ladhams is worth that

Freo just needs to hold it's nerve regards Clark. Pick 22 should be a take it or leave it offer. As trade period is ending Geebung will have to decide if they want a player on their list that can't get a game or take chance of getting a new player with pick 22.

We either want the player or we don't. The fact of the matter is we showed our hand and the Cats have run with it. Fair play to them. Fyfe coming out and said what he did has cost us leverage.
