Back on Amiss, it did worry me the way he was shut out towards the end of the colts season when he came up against good sides. He went goalless in both finals and only kicked a couple in the last few rounds when up against fellow finalists. When he gets paid a bit of attention, he seems to struggle with his lead up style much harder to implement. Unfortunately, that lead up style tends to be much harder to pull off at AFL level with defenders tactically occupying space.
I also worry about his body after a knee injury and a history of injuries over the past few years. It's not a major concern but something to keep in mind.
On the other hand, JVR dominated through the finals series and the colts season, averaging more goals per game while playing all over the ground. He's good on the lead, can fly in a marking contest, can snap goals off the ground as well as being a good kick from outside 50m. His accuracy was comparable to Amiss (slightly worse) but 34 goals and 14 behinds is an extremely good strike rate. He also had to work his way back from injury at the beginning of the season.
Overall, JVR is a better player now. The question is, who is the better player in 5 and 10 years time? Amiss has an extra centimetre of height (195cm) and supposedly has had less development given his training down south. He seems more one dimensional as a player but is elite with those abilities. JVR is a more all rounded footballer and for mine, elite in more areas but has the advantage of a mature body that will be ready for AFL potentially next year (more likely after a couple of pre-seasons).
