I'm not a fan of comparing a draft selection too far back or averaging what that selection gives you. Drafting has become far more predictable/reliable over the past decade and with clubs taking in different strategies and requirements, it's not often a valid comparison. If a club is desperate for a tall/ruck/small forward etc, they often reach for a weaker player to fill a need. Similarly, clubs often reach for a local player rather than the next best player who they have to fight to retain. Different drafts also have different qualities with some full of better players (2018 super draft) or more KPP/midfielders. There's a lot of variables to take into account.
I'm confident there will be plenty of talent left on the board throughout the second round with JVR, Motlop, Williams and Bazzo all listed in
Cal Twomey's 20-30 range based on talent. I'd probably take most of those guys ahead of Clark along with a number of others. The benefit of Clark is he has more of an instant impact with his more mature body however he's played less football than all of those WA kids in the past couple of years due to playing VFL during covid hit times.
For a comparison of pick 27 in recent years, the 2020 draft had us pick O'Driscoll at 27 who's still developing. The year before (2019) it was Jeremy Sharp who broke out in stunning form this season. Before that (2018), Tom Sparrow who just won a premiership. The 2017 draft was Brent Daniels who's been decent but was selected either side of Liam Ryan and Sam Taylor who've been guns. In 2016 Zac Fisher was 27 with Lipinski and Fritsch the two selected after him.
In most years it's a very good level of talent in that 20-30 range and it should be no different this year. There's no way I'd go higher than 27 which is already over paying for Clark.
