TOPIC: Is Lachie coming back?

The timing couldn’t be any worse, there are 6 WA kids coming through who will go in the top 30 in this years draft and 3 of them are KPF’s, something we have been crying out for, for I don’t know how long, before Pav retired. Plus there are a couple of good looking mids in Eramus & Johnson (who looks like an ideal replacement for Mundy) and of course Motlop (who is probably lowest on our list needs but looks a ripper talent) the thought of giving up the opportunity to nab a couple of these guys to bring home a 28yo inside mid seems like madness.
If we could orchestrate a way to bring Neal home without impacting this years picks, I could see some value in it. But short of getting pick 6 + a future 1st round pick for Cerra and then on trading the future 1st to Brisbane for Neal, I can’t see how it works.

Neale will play for Cerra's money; he may need a $50-100k top up. So there's possibly no salary cap squeeze.

Sure, you can draft a 17 y.o. and pay him much less if salary cap is the problem but I don't think it is and you won't get 30 possessions a week. Even Serong doesn't do that.

I acknowledge that another key forward might be needed for depth. OK, use your 1st rounder to get one then. You can still get Neale with the picks Carlton will give you.

You can't keep filling holes by drafting young players if older players like Cerra leave. You will never get ahead.

Replace retiring players like Mundy with draft picks, that is totally different.

You would take him if he's cheap. He's moving here to raise a family. Presumably he's banked a bit by now. I wouldn't be surprised if he's ok with a pay cut within a reasonable margin, if it means he gets to live here and start a family, with his wife's family to help support. He was cranky before because he was on 400k and a star of the game, and Bennell was on 600k, and not playing.

Polly despite the correctly called grog fueled ramblings I thought on the matter of Neale I was pretty clear, here's a version that perhaps HWMBO won't delete.
Polly, we have the Eagles covered for the next few year without Neale. Lachie, as many others have alluded to just does not hurt the opposition enough with all those possessions he gathers & it was no surprise to me that he didn't get AA selection when he broke the AFL possession record back in 2016. Forwards are what we need and there are 3 from WA as well as a top flight midfielder in Neil Eramus to pick from in this years draft. So no deal for Neale as far as I'm concerned, I'd prefer we draft as many of them WA boys as we can get. And after listening/reading to multiple posters lament the lack of decent forwards wearing Purple for years, i.e. Tabs isn't the answer, we need support for Tabs, we need another power forward etc.... With 3 quality WA forwards Jye Amiss, Jacob Van Rooyen & Jack Williams available in the upcoming draft then I'm with Bizkit on this one we'd be mad not to focus on acquiring them over securing Neale.

Yeah, nah - you were way better on the bottle Stoney. I say grab the turncoat - he wants to come home, play with the best team and live/raise his family in the best place in Australia. Whats not to understand with that.

Well, even the smartest person on the planet, Scott Morrisson, could tell you that you shouldn't make the deal that costs you way more than you get from it.

There are a lot of assumptions going down here, but if we take just the first one - one of the better of top 20 mifielders in the league will request a trade to Fremantle - then you'd be bonkers to dismiss it without a second thought, no?

He would make our list better. No doubt. The rest is down to terms. Rocket surgery it ain't.

Agreed … I can’t think of too many Brownlow Medallist’s who’ve nominated Freo … we bemoan our lack of depth etc.

As long as the price is right and that’s the real issue. No Tim Kelly type overpaying …

I can’t see Brisbane giving him away. If he was at our club we would want a couple of first rounders at least. If he’s worth a couple of first rounders then Cerra is worth more.
Neale will play maybe 100 more games. Cerra 200. Two first rounders 100-600.
I like the idea of Neale but not the price. Not for me.

No he wouldn't make our list better. No he wouldn't at all. You couldn't maximise the value of Serong if that little turd was in there. How does that make your list better?

You might win a few more games over the next two years but that's it. You won't beat top four teams with Neale. I thought Brisbane looked better when he was out.

Serong and Mundy aren't great defensive runners. Fyfe doesn't even really do it. Neither does Neale.

Want to see what happens when you have too many talented midfielders that do the same thing, look down the road.

We need DeBoer more than Neale.

Didn't Neale have multiple surgery's this year? He is in a similar position to Fyfe. Can we carry two banged up mids with our Medico rehab teams rap sheet? Grab the WA Kids in the draft we need. Let Peel make a play for him. I wish all you lot had spent more time and energy on Getting Cerra a WA Girlfriend, would have saved a lot of problems!!

OMG Hypen, I cannot agree with anything you wrote.

Where is Serong from, who says he won't do a Cerra in 2 years time too?

If Cerra had a WA girlfriend, he'd still go back to Victoria. It would be up to her whether she followed.

He so would make our list better. I can't get my head around you thinking that taking out Cerra, inserting Neale IF it were to happen, would suddenly make he and Serong lose their footballing abilities and run into each other so that Serong would be a less good player and Fremantle will win less.

You need to get over your Bell and Neale prejudice. It stifles the goodness of your grammatically conquering thought.
