Football clubs will football club, Polly. What about Neale?

Cerra, a twenty two year old. Doesnt talk till seasons out and sits his contract out. And has told his agent to look after Freo on the way out.

He's everything Neale isnt I'm afraid.

Freo should hold all the cards here if they choose to play them.
Let’s assume Lachie wants to come back to WA. His call. If he wants to play footy there are two options - Freo or the Ooftits. The mob down the road might be interested but he may not fit their list profile - I think they need youth. I do not think he fits Freos list profile either given his age and expected longevity. But there is history there so let’s consider it.
If he doesn’t turn up at Freo they are no worse off. If he does front up, I think he is in the best 22. Given he would be a bonus there is no need to pay overs or even fair value. He has a history of breaking contracts and far be it for me to criticise somebody for doing what’s right for them and their family, but this prodigal son narrative is carp.
Treat him like the commodity he is, walk away if the deal is not right and don’t sell the farm or even parts of it if it jeopardises (financially or culturally) what is starting to be built.

You don't know when Cerra made up his mind, hypen, but you do know that there were a lot of rumours about it. Nor do you know that he has told is agent to look after Freo, but he has no actual say in this anyway and when it comes down to it he will look after himself, regardless of how Carlton decide to play it.

You don't know that Neale has told any one about this but there were no rumours. Ryan Daniels was the only one who had the story and no one else saw it coming. Then all of a sudden everyone has heard rumours...they were just keeping them to themselves, as is common practice in the football industry.

It's just a popularity contest with you. You'll turn on Cerra in 6 months when someone writes an article about how Cerra had made up his mind two years ago and was secretly poisoning his team mates water to make himself look better and drive up his price.

Has there been any comment - official or otherwise - from the Dockers?

It seems odd that, despite all the newspaper and online comments, offering such certainty about Lachie Neale’s future and what Fremantle Footy Club have to do about it, no one seems to be bothering to ask if he’s actually wanted back at the club?

We havnt had a premiership since we started in 1994..... we’ve been on a rebuild since 2016.... I don’t know about you guys but I would love Neale to be in a midfield with Fyfe, Serong, Brayshaw, Young and Swiz not to mention an occasional Mundy and Walters. With a great backline ( baring injuries) and a young Treacy, Shultz and Fredericks the sky is the limit!!

So let me get this straight we don't see any difference in the conduct of Cerra and Neale? If so I'd have to say you are not looking.

Quite a number of people were calling Cerra a snake all year and saying that they would rather we didn't play him if he was going. Now you're acting like he's Saint Adam.

I see two footballers who would like to move to a different part of the country from where they are now. And two players who played football as well as they could for the club they were employed by.

So no material difference.

We could well finish up with 3 1st round draft picks following the Cerra trade. This leaves us with a very good chance of getting Neale and at least one top WA draft selection like Amiss or Erasmus. As many have said we also have our 1st round for 2023 to use in any negotiation. I think we (the Dockers!) are in a strong position tp come out of this OK for our finals (premiership!!) bid.

Presumably the club has an idea about who it is chasing in the draft. It seems to me that the crop of likely local kids (your Williamses, Van Rooyens, Amisses, Erasmi) are all ranked between about 10 and 25. So it might be that hanging on to pick 6 (from Carlton) might be less important than say getting hold of a couple of picks in the teens or low 20s. Personally if we could land (1) Neale, (2) Johnson or Erasmus and (3) Amiss, Williams or Van Rooyen, then we're good. Especially if we can find a hidden gem or two further down the list.

So for example
Cerra to Carlton for 6 and 25.
6 and next years first round to Brisbane for Neale and 14.
Leaves us with 8, 14, 25, 27.

Can we, ethically, morally, and legally, slip the eagles $20k to entice them to grab Lachie?

He won't go to the Eagles. He hasn't asked to be traded to a place. He's asked to go to a club.

Because, you know his wifes having a baby.
