Those AFL comparisons are some of the most rubbish I have seen. How is the Beams trade a lesson on how it should go? If anything it tells you we shouldn't pay anything for Neale!

Then the comparisons to much younger players (25yo) than Neale (a comparison I did with the Cerra trade when arguing he's worth two first round picks) who weren't two proper first round picks let alone the top 10 picks we're likely to have. There are so many holes in this article. Why should we bear the brunt of the Lions front ended contract used to pry Neale away from us? Brisbane can hold him to his contract if they're annoyed by it, we shouldn't be forced to suffer.

This all stinks of a horrible media beat up.

It should also be mentioned, you don't top up with mature players until your young list has come through the rebuild and starts challenging. You go early and you ruin it, especially trading out picks for top up players. We half-assed the rebuild and added years to it with the addition of Hogan, McCarthy, Lobb, Wilson, Conca, Hill, Acres etc who won't be there when we're challenging. We didn't start the rebuild till the Brayshaw/Cerra draft (after the 2017 season) and didn't fully commit till the Young/Serong/Henry draft. I beg the club not to go back to the mature path and back in our kids. Back in the talent available in this draft.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

interestingly no mention of the Gary Ablett Jr trade back to Geelong in 2017...

and, surely it's "half-arsed" in this part of the world?

I think the Vic media believe it's worth an extra first rounder if the footballer is travelling West than East.
Regarding Neale. It was Freo who put years into his development to get him to a stage where he walked to Brissy for their benefit.
What have Brissy done to increase Neale's value? .... F/A.
Tell Neale he can join our rookie list at half the rate and give nothing but a couple of 2nd rounders to get him.
This reeks of another stuffed up trade year if his home-coming ruins our ability to top up on 2-3 local WA tallent.

It’s hard to argue with a lot of points made here. This is bad timing for Fremantle and yes while you would have Neale in your team no doubt not at the cost of 1 top 10 pick let alone 2. Carlton will also see this as a way of getting Cerra through the door cheaper. Having 2 big deals to do during the same trade period isn’t ideal. Please Fremantle don’t trade out of this years draft.

A lot of people seem to think there's some real local rippers in this year's draft. I'm not convinced any of them will reach Brownlow level, but I may be wrong. A MacDonald last year, or a Jackson might be worth telling a Neale to get stuffed, but a JVR? Pick 6, 8 or 10 might - but equally, but more likely may not. I'm not as sure (as others) that this draft is as good as some suggest.

But nor am I convinced that Neale is either waning with durability or less than what we've lost. What I do know is that it took a lot of guts for Neale to put his hand up - 99% of anyone, in any profession would just live with their decisions of the past and live with their lot in life.

That's just how I feel - no numbers or precedent to support my opinion.

The thing with Wilson is that she is very sympathetic when her team gets the story but outraged when the other team gets the story. Other than that, she couldn't care less what happens at Brisbane or Fremantle.

As long as someone is sacked over it - she'll be fine.

Eventually Is Lachie coming back? 2 years 8 months ago #177

Eventually
We need to lock in our position early in this years draft to secure at least 2 top 20 picks, nothing should distract us from this. The solution as I see it is for us to trade our next years first 2 picks to Brisbane for Lachie which sets them up for what looks like a strong draft next year and would be a fair price for us to pay.

It has been reported in the press.
That Freo have been in discussions with Lachie for three weeks?
If that is so then,a deal could be imminent ,or now Lachie has stated he will go away and have more thinking time ,the deal is far from done.

JIf this goes ahead the one person who will definitely pay for this will Justin longmuir.
If this absolutely dumb Neale deal gets done we may make a final, but that is it.
In 2023 when it all goes south , longmuir will be terminated.
Not bell or Simon .

Longmuir, you talked about sustaining success.
Getting Neale is a sugar hit , stick to your guns and go to the draft.
Please please don’t do a hogan

Those who don’t have freo interest at heart want this deal to be done

Neale would not allow the move to go public unless the Dockers had committed to making it happen. Otherwise he'd look a complete muppet if the Dockers said they weren't interested. The Suns committed to doing "whatever it takes" to get Weller to request a transfer and look what that cost them. Just prey that the Dockers have not done the same.

A leak has come from somewhere and it hasn’t helped Freo’s cause, the fact the Lions were blindsided by it will not make any negotiations go smoothly, ideally Neale would have told them he was considering it before it got to the press.

If we can get Lachie in the door and have 2 top 20 picks left to pick up 2 of Van Rooyen, Jack Williams, Eric Benning or Jesse Motlop I will be happy as this group together with what we already have on our list should see us in finals for at least the next 5 years as our Premiership window will be wide open. The other wild card is still Rory Lobb who, if he does leave, will surely give us another first round pick and maybe another second rounder which we can use to gather more West Australian talent.
