Hmm...would have to disagree, Shane. If it was another player, or someone in the street - nothing to see, off you go.
However, it is inherent on everyone who plays the game to not only not make intentional contact with an umpire, for any reason whatsoever, but also to avoid contact with an umpire. Given the umpire was stationary, Greene is required to step around him.
The heavy penalty is not to Greene, but as a deterrent to every other angry person who doesn't agree with the umpire's decision on-field - the filter-down is to amateurs where you have 14-year olds umpiring grown men ('cause no one else wants to) - if it's now ok to show 'em you don't like it then the umpires will quickly disappear.
Or...worst case, footy will descend into soccer farce where they get right up in the ref's face and scream when their dive goes unrewarded
