We need to choose someone who fits our long-term plan. So we need to get the age/position profile that best suits our list. I imagine there is a spreadsheet in Dockers HQ with a few holes that need filling.
That said, the club are still on the "sustained success" mantra, which doesn't seem like too bad a thing to me. If you have a good list and make the 8 fairly regularly, there must come a year where injuries are good, and the ball bounces your way and you end up with a shot at the title. I prefer that to throwing the kitchen sink at your brief window of opportunity and then watching it all go pear shaped.
