TOPIC: The Wash Up

Well, it seems barring some sort of miracle our season is over with it hard to see too many more wins coming our way.
Fyfe must go for surgery now, no point in bringing Walters back this year. So once again the cupboard is bare.

It's pretty obvious that there are players there that aren't up to AFL standard, but we really don't have much to bring in. Lobb would be back soon you would think and Treacy. Hughes, Duman and Acres who don't really inspire confidence. We've played lots of youngsters, so perhaps time for Western to replace Henry or someone else?

Tucker to the midfield in Fyfe's spot, because I really don't think he's a half back.

It must be disheartening for the squad as they now have to try and stay positive with a few games still to come. Plus it makes it hard for us to keep players like Lobb and Cerra who have big discussions about their leaving already, wanting to stay.

Realistically the only sides who are playing as badly as we are atm are Carlton and perhaps Collingwood or Hawthorn.

God, it's hard being a Freo supporter.

It will be harder in Round 22 when we get flogged for the 12th time in a row.

Lucky we picked up an extra in the mid season draft , not (a big KP player like Keitel would be handy)
This is part of our troubles we are run by duds, expected more football acumen from Bell

I'll freely concede postponing the premiership window until 2022, unfortunately we lose some good players, and our ageing champions may not deliver the same output in 2022.
Yes I think the coach has to think about player's most natural positions, I think Tucker would be handy in the middle but our main challenge is lack of forward pressure and presence, we missed Treacy and Lobb today, and that's 2 games in a row where we apply very few tackles in the forward line.
We have talented players, but challenges for the coach for next year.

OGS being a West Perth guy I was disappointed when Keitel didn't get a gig mid draft.
I was concerned before the draft he was going in to hard at contests and that he might be and the sidelines as he was out to make an impression...if anyone was looking.

Great win by Romain Cannone in the fencing.

Ok, I watched the whole delayed telecast - forget the second half, we lost it in the third quarter. A big loss - whaddya expect, down three of our best for half a game. Get a grip.

But the first half was good - there's a lot of good things that were going on there, Brayshaw and Serong especially, but also Fyfe, Walters, Walker and Wilson.

But the best thing I saw was Luke Ryan deciding not to give Hayden Young a real bake after that marshmallow cross field kick in front of goal (the one The Heener Weiner had that speccy then goal from). Ryan was furious, he looked over and then looked down, nodded the kept a poker face. He knew it was a rookie mistake and he kept his disappointment to himself as he stood the mark.

That said a lot about leadership to me - and about keeping your head. Good on him - yeah, that's the guy I would run out on the field with.

It’s all very well to talk up Romain now that that he has a shiny medal. And who isn’t sick of that epee show pony Siklosi. But just like Onischenko in ‘76, how much is due to dodgy equipment and being the referee’s pet?

You can't blame the referee. Siklósi was too gutless to win the gold. He lunged when he should have flunged and Romain was just lying in wait for him, one sabreur to the chest and it was all over.

It's coming home.

Oh, the Olympics - I thought it was some dodgey bloke that got a contract for Colourbond barriers at the Moss Street redevelopment.

The other 17 teams have also had many chances over the last 5 years to draft Keitel but none of them have bothered either. Makes ya think doesn’t it.

The good news is Freo has now beaten 2 teams in the 8. Which I think maybe twice as many as the wiggles.
