Just like you should not get too carried away when things are going well - hawthorn win , the same applies to the disaster we saw on Thursday night.
There has been interesting commentary since then in the papers etc on our list and where should we go.
It has been a year since we were last humiliated by Geelong against a much weaker freo side last year so it was interesting to see what we would deliver this year.
Unfortunately nothing changed perhaps gone backwards. Yes you can’t make an assumption on one game , but it was a doozy of a humiliation.
I said it before and people take it the wrong way , while colyer, acres are in our best side we are what we are. That is not to say that they are no good or pick them , but to understand we are not going to seriously challenge until we have players in our squad to go past them.
Our skill development has stopped. We had a burst of improvement when Longmuir first started 2 years ago , ( how could you not improve under the previous regime) , but the skill has dropped away this year in particular against the better sides. Adam Simpson in his first year made great strides after worsfold left the eagles in 2012 and are now or have been one of the better skilled teams up until recently. We have plateaued or gone backwards . Coaching or player development.
Our centre clearance work gets belted unbelievably at times , ie port Adelaide, second half against an undermanned eagles side . This is a coaching issue.
Mundy should go on but to play him every week is absurd and hinders the development of future players. He was terribly outshone on Thursday night and what did you expect after a 5 day break.
Longmuir needs to show some inventiveness not huge but some. We have too many backman , can we try one as a medium forward ie duman. He never once player Fredric;s out of the centre , just once to add some dash and craziness.
Anyhow still hurting from Thursday night debacle and with the run home could finish the year with the biggest reality check ever.
If Longmuir wants to earn a contract extension he needs to show more. For goodness sake the freo organisation deserves more.
