He's been sprung drinking Spearmint milk is the rumour I heard.

Out of contract key forwards:
Sam Weideman (Melb)
Coleman-Jones (Rich)
Mason Cox (Coll)
Mabior Chiol (Rich)
Sam Day (GCS)

I wouldn't mind Chiol on our list. Fwd/Ruck. Good mark and kick. Good around the ground as well.

As long as it's not Spearwood milk, they grind out the expiry dates as well as the serial numbers down that way.

I back in Lobby all the way. He's not only the only one other than Brayshaw to solve his goal kicking yips over the summer, he's a former Black Duck - therefore someone you can count on to get the job done.

All of you bagging him have probably forgot that game a couple of years back where he took the handball, ran up the centre of the ground and managed to set up our winning goal in the dying seconds - WITH busted ribs and a dislocated shoulder. Geez

Haven't forgotten it, but as you said Polly, it was a couple of years ago, and not that much since.

This weekend would be a good time to bring that sort of stuff out again.

Everyone's being extremely harsh on Lobb, expecting a large stat line from the forward/relief ruck position is plain dumb. Who in the AFL plays that position, kicks consistent bags of goals, finds plenty of the footy and has an impact in the ruck? There's basically no one because it can't be done. Lobb is probably the best relief ruck in the competition while also posing a massive aerial threat forward and around the ground.

He's got his kicking sorted (he's actually averaging 1.5 goals per game opposed to what was stated earlier in the thread), he's a competition leader with his contested marking and providing a good chop out for Darcy when needed. We need him in the side and he's huge for our structure. Meek is no where near the player Lobb is and is not a like for like proposition. In fact there's probably only half a dozen players in the comp who'd come close.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Has anyone else noticed Acres doing a bit of back up ruck work this year? He took a couple of throw ins on the weekend if I recall correctly and did pretty well.

Yeah, I agree with Biz, ...I think Lobbs done pretty well this year, and if a role in the forward line is what he wanted, well...I can't see what he'd be complaining about??

Yes, I'd love him to be a bit more consistent, but, think he poses a bit of a threat down there, and that frees up other forwards.

I would have thought that he's getting a good go at it, and , I would have also thoight that it is a reasonable expectation that a 206cm player is going to get a run in the ruck every now and then.

To me, it sounds like a bit of rumour mongering from his manager in an attempt to get a few extra dollars on the next contract.

Acres has done some ruck work so Lobb can stay forward while Tabs is out. Otherwise the only tall we have there is Treacy who is 18 and still learning. Lobb gets stints in the ruck when he rotates with Darcy now that Tabs is out.

Extra dollars. I hope not as he is on a deal worth around $700,000 a year for the next two seasons through to the end of 2023.

Since Tabs has been injured he's been virtually doing no ruck work and played as the forward he wanted to be. We've actually been using Acres around the ground to relieve Darcy.

As for others well Darcy Cameron would be on far less money and is playing so well as a forward/ruckman he's keeping Cox out of the Pies. More goals and hit outs than Lobb.
Blicavs is only 198 cms and has far more hit outs than Lobb. Doesn't go forward as Hawkins does the ruck work in the forward line. Hawkins has more hit outs than Lobb and doesn't ruck outside the forward line, and obviously more goals.
Peter Wright for Essendon has far more hit outs and only five less goals, and Draper in his second season as support ruckman has far more hit outs.

Didn't think of all teams though so sure he's outperforming others and maybe more are doing better than him. I've never suggested that Meek is a better alternative, I just believe that for a bloke of his size and experience and with the money he's on, that we're not getting value for money. Others here obviously do though. That's part of being on Dockerland Discussions I would think.

Agree about the marking Cookie and I guess our delivery to the forward line doesn't help any of our forwards.

The money was to get him out of GWS, it's irrelevant when we have to use our salary cap on someone (there is a minimum amount we need to use). We also don't know for certain what Lobb's on and whether he was front loaded, back loaded, has triggers in his contract for bigger pay days or what.

In terms of comparisons, the only one of those mentioned who plays a similar role is Cameron and they are relatively similar although Lobb has more of an impact forward with 2 more score assists per game. The rest of the stats are reasonably similar. Blicavs has been the cats main ruckman for the season (and a poor one at that) while Hawkins plays a very different role to Lobb, just muscling ruck contests up forward. Wright spent half the season as the main ruck with Draper out but when he's in there, he has little impact.

The lack of comparable players around the AFL shows how valuable a player Lobb is.
