I don't know about you guys but I'm still fuming and hurting from our pathetic performance last weekend. Ever since RL took over and started playing down the derbies as just another game, we let go of our grip on them and have suffered some of our most heartbreaking losses.
The Showdown is on this weekend and
Port haven't shied away from declaring their hatred and the reasons this game isn't just another home and away match. I love to see this, our game is tribal and that us vs them mentality can be powerful and the reason we support a club.
Ahead of the derby rematch later in the year, I want to see us build it up. I want to see the players told this game is big, this game means more. Get Dale Kickett in, get Clive in, get One Punch Dodd down to speak to the boys. Tell the players how hard we fought to get into the comp, to form an identity. How the OOFTIT's tried to stop us, bully us and restrict our access to WA talent. How they put up as many walls as possible to stop us being successful. How they've tainted WA footy over the past few decades and how much history is behind us as a footy club representing Freo. Get them fired up, get them angry and send them out to belt the hell out of the OOFTIT's physically and on the scoreboard.
A derby is as close as you get to a final during the regular season so if we're repeatedly failing to win them and in a poor manner, we're not going to do much in September. I want to see us stand up and prove ourselves, flatten the OOFTIT's and start a new era.
