TOPIC: Who's on the plane to Gold Coast

He has kicked 1 point in 3 games. He's given away a free kick for every 4 kicks he's had.

It's not controversial.

I trust we'll play Gold Coast after the Lions. This should give us four on the trott at home at the back end?

Not all forward work is about kicking goals, I'd argue he was a net improvement to our forward line and we missed him on the weekend.

I would argue that it's an integral part of it but that we have plenty of players in the squad who can not kick goals to cover for him. Good luck to him when he gets a game but it's not a miscarriage of justice that he didn't get to go.

Josh Treacy is 18 or 19 yrs old, hes about 6 - 8 years away from peaking, he can have a few weeks at Peel to gain some more confidence, now hes had a taste.
Of interest was Mundys somewhat joking remark, I think I heard it on 360, when someone asked him how he still had the appetite and he responded that he at heart was a competitor. He made the example that he was still seething at losing a goal kicking comp at training to the big Kahuna. If Treacy is indeed a dead eye dick, he will be just what we need. In fact for me, to beat Mundy at goal kicking, well it was the best news of the week. But he will take some time.

They're flying down to Melbourne to play Essendon after this.

His goalkicking in the Peel game was really promising, nailing a set shot from outside 50 which travelled through the posts at a decent height and then goal kicked off one step from close to the 50 mark. Definitely the type of accuracy we need in the seniors, we just need to get it to him inside kicking range.

I'm not saying its a miscarriage of justice, I'm saying that it's not consistent with the short term objective of winning games and the longer term objective of developing our young players into a contending squad.

If he's fit, get him in there, I'd say he looks like the best candidate we've got to be kicking 40+ goals for us consistently over the next decade, so why leave him languishing at Peel? Get him playing and bonding with the rest of the youngsters.

You're imagining something that wasn't there in any of the games he played.

We can’t expect too much from Treacy. He’s 18 years old and didn’t play footy last year. While he appears to not be ready for AFL footy, he is clearly capable at WAFL level. We can expect that he will only get better with age and experience (as opposed to an older player such as Connor B who may have plateaued somewhere between WAFL and AFL standard) , so I’m bullish on him in the long term. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up being the bargain pick of 2020. But for now the coaches think he isn’t ready, which seems sensible enough.

Yeah but we need a messiah and all this facts and logic rubbish is taking him away from us.

I am keen as anyone for josh to succeed but the hype is totally not real. He kicked a bag last week against an amateur side with 8 reserve Eagles. He kicked seven in a scratchy against Claremont who in that game had no tall defenders due to injury. He played in the official preseason game against the Eagles and was simply outclassed and then 2 further games where was not sighted.

Look he is big , looks like there may be something to work with , but don’t kid yourself he is anywhere near AFL standard or even WAFL standard. Once he consistently can stand up against the better WAFL defenders ie Subiaco, south freo we can begin to discuss him in a proper light.

Freo is a long way from a finished product with major gaps in its list . They are not going to be sorted out overnight given it has taken 10 years of below average recruitment to get here.

Don’t put pressure on unproven players .

Fremantle need to give goal kicking the respect it deserves at the draft table. If you want big guys up forward kicking goals you need to pay the price, not throw darts at big guys in the rookie draft.

I disagree, most players don't perform from game one, a recent example being Andrew Brayshaw, averaging less than 12 disposals after his first 3 games as an 18 year old. The reason he is now able to get 25+ is because he was backed in, and has been in the AFL system and allowed to develop against players at AFL standard.

Looking at the bigger picture, Freo has an atrocious record of developing key forwards, and recently have tried buying one in without much success. Tabs is getting older, in 3 years he'll be in his 30s, if and when he gets injured, if the replacement choices are "some guy from Peel who isn't quite ready" or someone with 50 games under his belt, then I know who I would be looking at.

I'm not really getting the argument for not having him in the side? Then again, maybe you just like seeing Tabs getting double teamed every week.
