About once a season I decide to take advantage of the free Big Mac after a home win. But on the Monday after the NM win I went to the golden arches only to be told that they'd updated their policy and I could still have a "free" Big Mac, provided I spent $5 on things I didn't want. I went elsewhere and paid more money for proper food.

How long have things been like this? When historians look back and try and pinpoint the exact event that led to the decline of western civilisation, this is what they'll find...

The simple fact is you can't have a burger without fries, the soft drinks are dodgy but for an extra buck you can upgrade to a milkshake.

The problem is, the first gob the milkshake machine puts in the cup is always strawberry - therefore, unless you have strawberry milkshakes (and no one does more than once to give it a try) you get an odd mix of strawberry and chocolate with your first suck of the straw. That's bloody awful, believe me.

On a student assignment in France long ago, when MacDonalds were springing up all over continental Europe, I crossed the border into Germany - before the customs union - and thought about how to order a burger.
something like this: Ein Gross Mac mit fries bitte.
Once inside, all was in English,. but the thought has remained with me ever since when I think about fast food. It's tasty though, if it's free I'll take it. Darn, I'll buy some fries and coffee if I have to!

In a previous life I had to go into McDonalds stores at 1.00am to update the POS machines.
Things I noted:
i. The Smell
ii. There were no skinny people coming in in the early hours
iii. Their coffee made me nauseous
iv. The number of cockies escaping when they pulled the fryers out to clean them
v. The money I got paid was good.
