TOPIC: Commentators

On a day where fans are obliged to follow on the small screen, the commentator is King.
And, unfortunately, Brereton who drawls like a cowboy falling out of the saloon.
So, with the volume down, who else. Radio Langdon suffers from too many anecdotes, they forget about the game. All trail the ABC, who stick to calling the game, and well served by decent insights from Kara Donellan and Wellingham. They have found a good team there. 7 has some catching up to do.

I didn't think anyone was more insightful than Dermott, and it's always good to be reminded of how tough things were in his day.

“Charge of the light horse brigade” would have to be the comment of the year from Dermie.

I'm just so impressed, that after 25 years, Dermot took the time out from his precious week to find out who this Len Hall fella is.

I would have put up with Dermie and King, but the fake crowd noise really got to me - had to just turn the sound off. Any idea how they made that soundtrack? It sounded a bit Maori to me...

When My 11yo daughter asks me to explain what Dermott is saying, and asks why are the TV people not talking in a normal voice, you have a moment as a parent where you feel like you are failing your child in the awkward silence that follows...... FFS can we not get some competent commentators, you know, like ones who know the names of the players for a start??? DB - How the F does he get a gig???

Could have been worse. Eddie was trying to commentate the Carlton game. I think he feels that anybody with the first name Levi should have the last name Greenwood.
Nobody bothered to correct him - they were too busy trying to uncringe themselves after the rest of the carp.
What an ass clown.

Now that the broadcasters have decided that they don't actually need commentating at the ground itself there's a greasy downward slope facing the viewers in the months ahead. Who knows which pack of fools are going to be in front of a bunch of monitors in Melbourne.

At least we have Pav in his squish suit willing to step up from the boundary for a bit of a yack on game day.

B1R1, AFL is a closed shop, verging on sheltered workshop.

It's jobs for the boys at three paces. Thats how duurrhmie gets a job and that's why we don't get proper commentators. When you limit the field to concussion damaged knuckle merchants, you take what you can get.

And what's with this cutting the coach post-game pressers? At best you get only the winning coach now - no one is interested in some bloated statements of self-satisfaction. EVERYONE wants to see the loser fuming and trying to avoid eating humble pie - some attract more viewers than Roaming Brian (If he wasn't in Melbourne somewhere). My favourite is Chris Scott after a loss, but there are others - Simmo, Hinckley, Longmire - now that's worth hanging around for after a game.

Simmo is great after a loss. He spends the whole time trying to see if anyone would notice if he hides under the desk.
