I think the idea of a Super league is Brilliant !
Get Wet toast and Colonwood to join and leave the rest of the teams in the AFL.
It worked for the Golgafrinchans

My thoughts

Div 1 - 12 teams, 2wa, 2sa, 2nsw, 2qld, 3vic, 1tas. bottom 2 relegated to state league
Div2 - all the state leagues - gf teams from wa, sa, nsw, qld, tas play for 2 spots in div1 (carnival style)

each div 1 team has a 2nds and play prior to main game
Teams of 50 players and salary cap of $30m

I had this idea a while ago. Brisbane, Sydney, WC, Freo, Adelaide and Port all leave the AFL and invite a few of the better Melbourne teams to join them. And you run it as an unbiased truly national competition. Maybe chuck in a Tassie and NT team.

But I'm more concerned with the conflict between making the footy lucrative and making it exciting. Right now it seems that it is too much of an AFL entertainment industry rather than a footy competition. Players change clubs all the time, and it takes me half a season to know who our new guys are and how they play. And if you are a player and might get traded it makes sense that you stay on good terms with players from other clubs - but you should really hate them!

Why would it ever happen here?

The AFL already have a player movement and payment regulated system, and a draw that advantages certain clubs.

Man Utd should be calling Gil and ask him how he managed to rig such a thing.

Where is Andwew these days? That superleague thingy smells suspiciously like something he would cook up over there, seeings as how he couldn't get it past Kennett & co over here.

rr, the game is likely to move to more trading, during the season etc than less. it’s probably a good thing, just takes some getting used to

I don't think it's a good thing. It's changing the pieces midway through the game.

If they were masters they'd get it right before the season started. Midseason trading just gives them another chance to get it wrong.

it also provides flexibility to address immediate needs - injury crises etc.

with Hardwick looking for loans, the journey down this path has already commenced

It's a mechanism to lower the average players career from 2.4 years to six months - and for peanuts.

That Hardwick now sees players as commodities, and his family as replaceable, says more about how out of control his ego is than anything to do with running a football club.
