Ballass was AA standard, freakish goal sense, manic in his attack, until the inevitable decline in the last few years. Schultz looks more like a handy 50 goal per season small forward, but not in Ballas’ league.

Geez, anyone complaining about a forward that can kick straight isn’t thinking about what our score line would look like if we left it to Fyfe and Lobb. Schultz crumbing off Tabs and Treacy for the next couple of years sounds good to me.

... and, using Schultz as an example, I think we should also be recognising the improvement that some of our fringe players have shown over the last couple of years. Others include Switkowski, Aish and Collier. We have been critical of player development under RoLy ... maybe something has changed.

It’s a great point about keeping his feet. He also is excellent at timing his leads and keeping the ball in front of him. We’ve never really had a player like him, but he reminds me of a workman-like version of Paul Medhurst.

I don’t think I ever bagged Schulz, just kinda never had any expectations after early showings.

Firming as a favourite player now though. The effort is all very well, but positioning, decision making and execution have caught up big time.
