TOPIC: Sumich Chirp, re Darcy

I hate waking up reading rubbish in TheWest... Former Fremantle assistant Peter Sumich says Dockers ruckman Sean Darcy wants to return to Geelong

ā€œIā€™m hearing big time he wants to go back to Geelong,ā€ Sumich told SportFM.

Could this be true? Or is it just dribble from an ex-footballer/coach who likes to remain relevant.

He could well be hearing it from his good mate Kim.

I say good mate, but it's probably more of a not quite sure how to get rid of someone without being too rude situation.

Darcy would have to rumoured to be "super excited" about it, to be true.

I couldnt get past the pay wall but one headline was that Hardwick was in favour of loans.

It hink allowing loans caould be a good idea. For instance we have a lack of talls we could loan a tall from another club who isnt getting a game and he could play for Peel while we send one of our short hobbits to Sandringham.

Sorry I will drop the sarcasm, it could work if you have a club with something worth loaning to club which is short on a particular type of player. Im sure Hardwick has already worked out a way to rort, I mean benefit from it.

Hardwick doesn't understand the nature of football or why he gets paid.

If we loan a player to someone and they break the player, do we get a new one?

Imagine where this would leave Fremantle with our list of current broken players!

Darcy would be behind Rhys Stanley at Geelong, but in front of the other 3 ruckman on their list. Stanley is also 30, so it is probably not outside the realms of possibility that the story is true. The go home factor in footy seems pretty strong these days.

There's no way Darcy would be behind Rhys Stanley.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Maybe not. Stanley has gotten better as he's got older though. I have found Darcy somewhat frustrating in that he hasn't really progressed much since his first season. There's no way Fremantle would get what he's worth though and I would rather he stayed.

For comparisons sake, 22yo Darcy averages more possessions, goals and marks than 30yo Stanley this season despite coming in off injury and playing mostly forward. Stanley has only averaged 2 more hit outs than Darcy too.

For their careers, Stanley averages one more touch but 2 more marks while Darcy averages 12 more hitouts and a tackle more per game. I dare say the kid playing against men for most of his career shouldn't be anywhere near Stanley's stats for any of those figures.

From a playing point of view, Stanley is terrible in the ruck and relies on having midfielders at his feet who don't need him to win the tap. That way he can try and use his athletic ability around the ground to be another link in the chain although he's not very good at that and isn't a great kick. Alternately, Darcy actually wins the hitouts and is learning exactly where to place them to be most effective. He's good in the air and really improving his contested marking (which is way ahead of Stanley) as well as starting to hit the scoreboard and get around the ground more.

I don't think there's a coach in the AFL that would tell Darcy to play in the 2's behind Stanley.

So if that's your opinion of Darcy vs Stanley it adds further weight to the "slight possibility of there being truth to the rumour?"

Even if it's true, why discuss it at this time of the year? He can't go anywhere for 6 months ( unless he walks out).
Let's worry about it then. Sumich and his ilk just need to keep their mouths shut and keep in the present.
