I’ve been thinking about this a bit. Young appeared to get hurt when he and some lumbering Carlton bloke were both going for the same ball. Young showed a lot of courage to put his head over the ball but the Carlton bloke seemed only intent on hurting Young.
The sensible thing for Young to do would have been to pull out of the contest. Any sane human would; and yet a culture has been created in AFL football that if you shirk even one contest - no matter how sensible a decision that is - you get put on the talking head programs and called out by fat plonkers who started playing when only one game a week was telecast.
I don’t know about the internal reviews, but I’m sure most coaches would highlight it as a learning opportunity and talk about earning the trust of the players.
Now, I don’t know what all that adds up to, but it sucks we won’t see Young for a while, and it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable that in order to play professional sport he basically needs to let a big goomba injure him.
Also, my favourite players are the bravest ones, so I guess shrug emoji.
