Speaking cross-code, how good would it be to see Bowers as an in - there is no way Patrick Cripps would've survived the game without a lengthy time in rehab afterwards.

There’s an old saying that your best ability is availability. You know who was almost always available? Zac Dawson. We could have used someone like him against Carlton so Cox could swan around and take marks instead of looking on while McKay marked the footy 10m in front of him.

Dawson made a career of making players like McKay seem even more useless than him.

Zac the spac would have been worse than useless on Sunday.

He was a one trick pony that could function (barely, sort of) in a crowded defensive area. No flood, no Zac. He was slow and not particularly agile and Carlton would have just bounced off him all day.

Ho could fist the ball away from a marker when he was unchallenged but up against a direct opponent, he was pushed off the ball with little effort.

If Zac had played on McKay he would not have kicked 7 goals (and nor would McKay). For all his faults, Zac was strong, fast, and stuck to his man. Mind you, Eddie Betts would have crumbed the spoils and got a couple of goals.
We desperately needed a negating defender out there.

The negating defender is supposed to be Conca's role.

But there's another thing Fremantle are champions at. Recruiting once good players, usually from W.A. and sending their career backwards or stalled. EG. Conca, Wilson, Acres, Aish, Lobb? McCarthy, Hogan.

We're also good at recruiting players with an injury history and doing little or nothing to turn that around. eg. Valente, Sturt, Switkowski, Bennell

Plus of course we excel at having so many players with recurring, long term or TBA injuries. eg. Pearce, Hill, Hamling, Valente, Sturt, Logue, Tucker
