TOPIC: Carlton v Freo

Umpiring decisions are a smokescreen. There were decisions that resulted in goals on both sides - Aish was HTB that resulted in a Walters goal. Silvagni's push in the back was about as weak a decision as you can find - he wasn't even touched!

Carlton had 49% possession with 64 inside 50's at 53% compared to Freo's 35% possession with 43 inside 50s at a pathetic 44%. That's the real reason for a 45 point loss.

Walter, that confusion with Morgan is a canary in the coal mine. Take heed.

Morgan, don't tell me it's a falsity that canaries suffer dioxide poisoning.

I'm not sure about dioxide poisoning, but those canaries were pretty good at getting affected by carbon monoxide poisoning before the miners.

Maybe Freo needs a Canary that starts chirping when we keep kicking it long into the forward line in futility ... Oh wait, that's us here at Dockerland! The real problem is that Freo hasn't checked on the canary for a while. I'm sure it's nothing that Belly can't sort out now that he's freed from giving all those injury updates.

Put the game behind us - it was awful to watch, even tougher to stomach. Sure, a lot of players were below par, the good ones average, some were good, yet remarkably most were stoic and fought on. The umpiring was pathetic but that happens, better luck next week.

My concerns are pretty basic - the largest one is around the backing in of risk taking. JLo has spoken a lot about this, about encouraging players to have a go. Sure, sometimes it goes horribly wrong and you end up with Hayden Young kicking out of the goal square and all four wheels flying off his bus afterwards. It was a risky kick but it was the right one to take - a bit more oomph to the kick it would've gotten there quicker and we were away into open ground. But it never worked and the kid lost his decision making totally (thankfully he was subbed out, hopefully he's ok).

But you gotta trust the talent to stretch their limits, to take risks and become better. Stick with it JLo - those Carltoon knobbers can just get knotted, we'll get to them in the future.

Yep. Last week we missed a lot of shots on goals but this week we didn't take them for fear of missing. I'd rather they kick 1.6 than 2.0.

Yep, I'm with Polly. Put the game behind us and focus on next week... sure there will be a review and from that we'll get better.

Yes put the game behind us and trust the review but I don’t want to see any 3 or 4 year contract extensions...

If reviewing things made them better we’d be continuously improvementizing, wouldn’t we?

I perceive an implementation gap, which is a piece of management speak I just made up. I don’t suppose it’ll catch on, because it just means what it says.

EDIT: googled it, and yeah...

Expat, if we move Cox to the forward line we don't have one tall backman option. The rest are around 193 cm or shorter.

And Ryan played most of last year as our 203cm defender.

If the Hawks play as well as they did against Geelong we are in for another flogging next Sunday! We are undersized down back and up forward which is not the case at Hawthorn. I'm not looking forward to this game even though its at Optus and we hope to get back on track. We'll be underdogs without doubt.
