What I’ve learnt from this game:

1. We are still in preseason mode
2. Coyler should have been delisted last year
3. We have absolutely no luck with injuries
4. We are back to square one with our forward line
5. Our midfield is ok
6. Cox looked very disinterested and lacking energy today
7. Tabs (and a few others) need to get a little angry

We were far from embarrassed I would say great effort by the players....no excuses but there is a damning statistic, Fremantle have 16 players on the injury list plus Treacy banned now with the addition of Pearce and Hamling ....the only clubs that come anywhere near that is Carlton and Melbourne with 10.... I challenge any top AFL club to be able to compete with so much carnage.

Very true but our injuries at freo have been bad for a very long time.
Longmuir picked a bad side , Watson had average to poor form in both preseason games. Colyer had 4 opportunities of which he should of scored 3. While our forward line was poor our run out of defence and the ability to even half a contest when we outnumbered them in defence was bordering on diabolical.
Young was the best and Luke Ryan while poor will improve . Cox has his days but he is no lockdown defender. Yes he played some good games last year but when he had to man a genuine forward ie an ageing champion at the eagles Kennedy he was made to look very ordinary.

I get we love to build champions at freo , there is only hope at our club unfortunately. But we have too many try hards. Black acres loves the wing was terrible in the forward line. Fyfe can play forward but for goodness sake he is average at best their. He is a great mid who can float forward.
Tabs finished the day off well.

Yes agreed injury list is Huge.
However....we keep making excuse after excuse about actual game. We screw up opportunity after opportunity.
Skills atrocious for AFL standard. Do we want to be the club that is going to be always accepting of mediocre??
Its all about accountability! Freo need to improve. Yes we can take some positives out of game but theres not bloody many! Some Players stats may look alright....but could they be better? absolutely they could!
Start looking at effort!!!
p.s. written in anger and despair and loss of hope :(

I can accept Tabs was underdone and not going to be at his best given his interrupted pre-season and reports of a sore back but if you're going out there, at least try and compete. Effort to get to a contest is needed and not what he was showing.

3 goals is not an accurate reflection of his performance but hopefully gets him up and about for the next game.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I wouldn't be getting too despondent after today's game. A lot of things went wrong for us today from Lachie Schultz not getting 50 metres when man on the mark clearly went sideways to smother his kick and then Adam Cerra, one of our best kicks, shanking an easy shot on goal out of bounds. And the injuries.
But our defensive unit from last year, ranked number 4 in the comp, is still intact if we call up Wilson and Duman. Next week we bring in Darcy which gives us height and maybe Sonny Walters up front. Get rid of Colyer and maybe Henry who looked way out of his depth and we can put a really good team on the park against the Giants. It's a long season and some of our best troops will return.

Got to agree about Henry. He was drafted with huge wraps along with Sarong and Young and simply does not look like he is AFL standard at this stage of his career. The other 2 have fitted in seamlessly into our best 22. I would suggest an extended run with Peel would be best for his development and confidence.

Agreed on Henry, he needs at least 6 weeks in the WAFL. The sooner we can do without Colyer and Blakely in the team the better we will be. Hopefully we look forward to Logue, Walters, Darcy, Walters and Valente being available next week.

Waited 5 months to watch that. Sure we had plenty of players out but once again, too much left to too few to get us going.

We don’t appear to have enough leaders on the field when the going gets tough.

You've got to be a bit weird to watch that and go - Yeah, Liam Henry is killing us.

He had no chance out there today.

Noddy, in fairness we’re a young side and most of our leaders were literally off the field.

I think Colyer is not necessary for the rest of the season unless we've only got 22 fit players. I've stuck up for him in the past but on today's performance he'd have to go close to being one the worst players we've ever had on our list.
