Suddenly we decided that tall forwards and Ruckman weren’t needed for some reason and that’s why we got rid of Mc Carthy and Hogan with the rest of the brigade only to revert to drafting mids and defenders and Tracey......having said that I thought the players tried hard on Saturday but the skills execution and decision making was poor, had chances but our kicking for goal was bad as well ad the unprecedented ? carnage everything points out towards a very poor preseason and planning in my opinion.....of course is only round 1

If the MCG is a Freo graveyard, might as well pull stumps and forget the whole thing. GFs tend to be played there. Or, learn the play there. Wasn't optus and the ETAF set up to be very similar?

As for the team set up. Is the depth really so poor that if you don't choose certain players, the whole skill set of the team turns to shite?

Exceed, maybe the scoreline didn't flatter us, the players left standing put in a pretty good effort to get back to within 3 goals. It could have been a much different game had Pearce not been shoved (in the back) into Fyfe's path. The small forwards would have had he & Tabs working to get them into the game, not just all having to rely on Tabs as the target. Henry looked ok when the ball came to ground or was kicked to his advantage.

Longmuir priority was the defensive set up and it kind of backfired, I would of liked to see Cox in the forward line ( 27 goals in 37 games manly played in defence swingman ) keep Pearce in defence and play Fyfe in the midfield with stints in the forward line

If his priority was the defensive set up, he wouldn't have moved Pearce into the forward line at the last minute.

His priority was covering for a lack of key players. Years of bad decisions aren't just going to go away with a couple of fancy draft picks.

That’s true and that’s why injuries played a big part but I still would of tried Cox in forward line with Pearce down back.... but Cox is labelled right now their best key defender (says Fyfe)

Hale and Longmuire could be useful talls in the foward line?

Sounds like a lot of scribes here need to take some chill pills! Our coaches have a plan but injuries and suspensions have impacted the result so far. I'm very confident our coaches will get us playing winning football very soon and I'm very confident in the playing personnel we now have and our depth, crikey we lose in Melbourne at the MCG at breakfast time by only 3 goals and the sky has fallen in???

The MCG might be our graveyard but the GF is only guaranteed to be played there until 2057. Plenty of time to sort this mess out until the big dance can be played on our home deck.

They should nominate you for the draft during your eulogy. You'd slot into our forward line perfectly.

Agree about the chill pill. But the signs and injuries are not short term.
I am sure our game will improve on the home deck. But remember this side pulled out pants down last year at Optus. They are slick well skilled side who could easily handball and kick sharply through our leaden boots filled defence.

Hope you are right. Sincerely hope you are right as after 5 years of shite the club supporters deserve better than good effort

Just to be clear I'm not against swinging Pearce forward, but I'd reserve that move for when we're 10 goals up in the granny with 5 minutes to go.

I have 7 forwards on our list. Two of those, Taberner and Treacy, are key forwards. That's right, two. And Treacy is yet to play an afl game. The other genuine forward is Walters. Of the others, Colyer is nearing the end of his career and couldn't hit a barn door on Saturday, Henry is just starting out, and as far as I am aware Sturt has moved to another country. You could add Schulz, and possibly Switkowski, in as a forward as well. The club lists Banfield as a forward, which is ridiculous as he runs away from the goals when he gets the ball within the arc, and Crowden. Let's be honest though, both are midfielders.

What on earth do the recruiting staff talk about in those meetings they have all year long. Wouldn't you think the lack of forwards at the club would be something that occasionally comes up?
