I have gone to alot of live footy over the years and it can be hard to judge these kinds of things. But Fyfe's 2015 season was the best individual season I have witnessed first hand. He was not only completely dominant, but utterly spectacular. There have been very few footballers as good on the ground as they are in the air, and Fyfe is one of them. Probably the only one really. He had the brownlow in the bag by the halfway mark and it was probably the only season I can remember just sitting back and not worrying too much about everything else but enjoying how great he was.
These kinds of discussions get clouded by age and romance. The players that dominated when you were a kid will always hold a special place. The media often sways things too. The number of people under 40, say, that will answer Leigh Mathews, or someone similar, despite never seeing them live shows this I think. I didn't see much of Stephen Michael live but I am sure he was up there. I would certainly put Fyfe ahead of someone like Cousins or Jakovich for watchability. You go to the games to see players like Fyfe.
