Bruce appeared to love his job and did plenty of research but for me he was at times overly effusive and too gushy with an occasional false ‘eh’ made at the end of a sentence which seemed at odds with his general delivery, and was like his way of trying to connect with the average footy punter. Add to that his fawning over certain players, as has been mentioned, was off putting. You could sometimes sense the discomfort in the media box at how and what he was saying,
It’s all subjective but Drew Morphett from
the ABC Winners was my favourite, in my view an example of what a good footy commentator should sound and be like.
Some of the younger radio guys are the best commentators and Ch7 should have a look at employing them.
