It's one thing to say that you will not tolerate racism it's another to have the guts to do something about it. Collingwood have talked the talk but clearly not walked the walk. The outcome of the investigation into racism at Collingwood is scathing ("systematic racism") and Eddie should now fall on his sword. Anything less further confirms his lack of respect for the investigation and its outcomes. Furthermore, the fact that Buckley denied concerns should also place a question mark against his ability to mentor young impressionable footballers.

I think it goes through the entire industry still. They removed the direct abuse on the field, and they cleaned up the public quite a bit, but the racist people in football just learnt to hide their racism better and use the right language. The AFL celebrate different cultures with onfield ceremonies but they don't address things like the under representation of non-white people in off field roles, or the growing need to be awarded a scholarship from a posh school if you're black and want to play in the AFL. There's not been a desire by the AFL to make things better, so I can't see why it would only relate to one club.

Totally agree Shane. I don't see this as a Collingwood only issue, however, they have been aware of specific accusations against them and have consistentently turned a blind eye. They also now have an investigation that relates specifically to their culture (while also indicating that the issues are likely to extend beyond Collingwood). This all adds up to the Collingwood board needing to take action or the AFL should intervene before it is seen to be further compliant with the culture.

What do people expect from a club where the President hosted The Footy show for so many years.

Yes, Shane, more diversity in off-field roles will open up the administration to what discrimination really feels and looks like, not what priviliged white people think it feels and looks like. The AFL is a long way from equality for minorities, and will stay that way while the off-field workforce is a club for the elites of our world.

Eddie -
"There was not systemic racism as such, we just didn’t have the processes in place as we look back now to do the job we would like to have done,” he said. “We’re not a mean-spirited club. We’re not a racist club."

So I gather the board haven't accepted the report yet, or Eddie has decided to resign, because that response of his is exactly what the problem was.

Yeah, you can hardly expect Colonwood to respond to this by making the structural changes needed to address what is now a well known problem.

Certainly, the AFL won't be pushing for structural changes because the AFL won't want to rock the boat in case they go overboard and it prefers gestures to action because the price tag is lower.......and the boys club where you can get a fabulous salary and get to work out what the job is a bit later.

Nothing will change anyway until the majority change their attitudes and points of view.

It's not us and them that are the problem. It's us. The 'them' bit are fellow Australian citizens and should be seen as part of us not as 'them'. I hasten to add here that we do not have to have a single culture. We don't. Indigenous culture does not need to removed or modified or anything. It just needs to understood as a part of the wider Australian community.

Change your attitude? Lock that one in, Eddie.

Eddie is football's Scomo in everyway. To open his speech the way he did, was Prime Ministerial to say the least.

When Tony Armstrong comments on things like this, it would be good to have it translated into the words he's thinking. Far too aware he's on the government broadcaster.

We should send him to deal with China trade negotiations.
