While we’re discussing clichés, where does everyone land on the emergence of players referring to footy as 'their craft'? There’s been a lot of talk from Freo players about ‘perfecting their craft’, and Freo has been holding ‘craft sessions’ at training.
For reasons I can’t articulate it really bothers me. My guess is it’s because seemingly no-one in the AFL can bring themselves to refer to the thing they work in as a sport involving a bunch of adults chasing a footy around a park. For the admin and hangersoners it’s ‘the industry’, for the club employees it’s job titles pilfered from the corporate world, and for the players it’s now all about their craft as if they are part of an artisan wood-turning guild.
Anyway, I'll just be outside yelling at a cloud.
