RR, its 2021 season coming up, we are not stuck in the 2012-2019 era. Tabs is a forward now, not a 4 quarter ruck-rover.

The one metre limit for players on the mark is comical. It turns them into witches hats. It also put ridiculous pressure on the umps as they need to call play on (and ensure it is being heard) prior to any movement by the marking player. There are so many better options to open up the game e.g. toss the ball up immediately instead of waiting for two rucks to put up their hands like school children and penalise any third players who enter the ruck contest. Just leave it to the players to sort out who is going to do the ruck work.

Left field idea. There is a minimum distance for kicks. Why not do the same for handballs e.g. 3 metres? That would open things up and stop the over use of handballs in tight groups (but may be difficult to umpire?)

If they actually paid a free for every throw, handoff or incorrect disposal, the game would really open up, they won’t though because all the big vic clubs use these tactics all the time.

I like the decreased interchange. The 1m on the mark sounds difficult to adjudicate and I fail to see what it will achieve

Steve is trying to justify his paycheck. If he needs to do that, he is overpaid. Move him on and put the money into local footy.

So, with Grandpa signing on for another season does that mean Fremantle have to allocate 50 breaks on the bench for Mundy every game?

I must admit, when I first read the title to this thread, I thought it meant the AwFL had tightened the interpretations around the holding the ball rule

Lateral movement restricted when standing the mark. I never heard any player, commentator, umpire, administrator, Club President or fan identifying this as a problem in our game. Steve Hocking. Yet another Steve.

So what happens when Buddy is lining up for goal from 50m, swings into his 'natural arc' and the man on the mark is stuck 5-10m to his right? Buddy continues to run on past the player on the mark as the umpire can't call play on.

This is dumb and achieves nothing.

Not to mention the lack of rotations are only going to damage the players like Dusty who are more footballers than athletes. You can't tell me coaches are going to choose pure footballers over blokes who can run 15km a game. Kids with football talent will get far less of a go, along with draftees who don't have a couple of pre-seasons behind them. It'll make those kids and injuries much harder to cover for in games along with decreasing the overall skill level as everyone is far more tired.

These are rules for the sake of rules and not going to help. How you could introduce these after a shortened and covid impacted season like we just had is mind boggling.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

These people are dumb as a brick.

So this rubbish is meant to create more DM moments? Guess what numbnuts, that player creates those moments already, with the rules as they are. You think your tinkering is going to clone Dustin Martins? You are morons.

You tinkering only creates the opposite of what you want to engineer. Which has happened with every single rule change on rotations they have ever implemented. But they are so dumb they don't even realise that.

These deadheads are not custodians of the game, as they see it. They are messers, tinkerers, fartabouts, hucksters and nobs. Have I missed anything?

Rule changes should be voted on by all clubs and if two or more don't like the change they shoudn't be allowed to change the rule.

Are you trying to upset the AFL autocracy? They're the custodians, goddammit. They custode. No one else is allowed to do custoding. They know better, cos they're paid more than everyone else.

Looks like another solution looking for a problem.

Maybe I should start another topic on rule changes that were appropriate. Getting rid of the shirt front is one I was in favour of.
