For what it's worth, in the scheme of things going forward for the club its the right call. Yes we're not going to get much in return but its time we made a stand and not just bring home WA players for the sake of they used to live here. We need to be a destination club (like the mob up the road unfortunately) but its not going to happen until we win a flag.
And I think the AFL need to take some responsibility here as well to sign off on deals that appear too good to believe. They have a responsibility for the players welfare going forward as well. I believe that the Demons played a big part in this and we did not know the full extent of Hogan's off field issues.
A bit late now but I also think there has to be some form of Cola for expansion clubs outside of Victoria up until they win a flag.
A Jeremy Cameron is simply never going to walk to a club outside of Victoria unless as above the club is successful off and on the field.
Interesting article below on how on that occasion the AFL stopped a trade going through saying its not in the spirit of the rule. Not exactly the same, but I think you know where I'm going with this. The same could be applied for Bennell and other failed trades.
