This has already been touched but to reiterate once again. The hogan transfer out is affecting us signing Schultz and Mundy.

I just cannot believe we can be anywhere near our salary cap given the near bottom performance Of freo since 2016.

The afl needs to step in and find out what the hell is going on at our club and if such mismanagement is the norm!

It’s possible the club is concerned about future salary cap cuts, given the loss of revenue due to COVID-19, in which case Hogan’s contract probably looks worse now than it did in previous years, or they could be chasing someone at the end of next season.

I agree it seems unlikely that Freo would be bumping up against the cap next year, so if Hogan’s contract and extension trigger really is an issue I’d be inclined to negotiate the (potential) three years down to two years guaranteed, heavily front-load the contract for next year (when we should have cap space), and give Hogan and the club some certainty.

Best case scenario, it all works out. Worst case scenario, Hogan’s salary would be much more attractive in 2022 meaning a reasonable trade is much more likely.

Importantly, it gives Hogan some certainty and two years guaranteed, and encourages both parties to work out their issues – as opposed to the current contract which (if reports are correct) encourages Freo to not pick Hogan.

But maybe that’s the sort of thinking that led Bell to outsmart himself the first time around.

I know Blakely is slipping under the radar in this post, but a player being expendable one year into a three year extension (reportedly on decent money) is a bit of a clanger as well.

I am not sure who handles these player contracts but if it is bell than really he should be held accountable. Maybe not given his marching orders as there maybe more shared responsibility but certainly consequences. These things do happen to other clubs usually poor performance clubs but freo is near the top of the pile.
That explains why we have not had sustained success as we can’t make good decisions for long enough. Any good players choices are just offset with multiple awful ones unfortunately.
It is a bit depressing as we seem to have the same people making decisions with Noone being sacked for it?

All these comments about years of mis-management etc seem to reflect the years of people griping on here.

As far as I'm concerned, Peter Bell has been succesful so far: got rid of a coach who implemented a horrible style of play, got rid of Steve (Harris or Rosich - they are/were the same person, werent they?), appointed a coach who has made us feel proud of the team again, fostered a sense of optimsm about the place.

Ok, there are glitches, but I have confidence that Peter Bell is doing a good job and will carry on doing so..
Also, we are Fremantle, we're not, nor are we likely to be the biggest most succesful club in the AFL, or even Perth for that matter. That doesn't make us less valid as a football club, nor should it affect how we support the team we chose. I am comfortable with it, and as they say, every dog has it's day.

I do wish our day would hurry up, but in the meantime, lets stop moaning so much, eh?

I wasn’t a fan of the Bell appointment but I’m coming around.
I think if he hadn’t stepped into the Hogan deal we might have given up more and not had a trigger included.
I suspect some standards are being set.
Whether Hogan stays or goes I hope this year puts a line through some poor recruiting and player management years.

People on this thread are pointing the finger and saying heads should roll over Jesse's signing yet all are forgetting that we offloaded list manager Mark Micallef in January this year and replaced him with David Walls so maybe the move has already been made and this is Walls' list management in practice. If so I think people should hold fire on Belly and just see how this plays out. There have already been tough decisions made surrounding McCarthy and other delistings so far and the list is looking quite healthy. All we need is someone to kick goals but I'm confident JLo has something planned for next year and beyond. It just may not involve Jesse.

Your right there Polly and I've always been a big fan of both of them. I think they could both have worked but unfortunately Cam was caught up in the Lyon debacle and Jesse, well, may have unfortunately upset JLo in a big way and is out the door. Í'm not criticising JLo there as it's a bit of a result of all the Covid fixture That hasn't helped as in a normal season both Cam and Jesse would have been able to hone their craft at Peel in the WAFL and I feel they could have still been on our list next year. Our current policy seems to be one where we do not take risks with injury prone players or those with any off field problems whether they be social or health related. We do not have a good history dealing with these players.
