I never saw him as a purely outside player. Maybe my memory is going.

It probably doesn't surprise anyone that I wouldn't be parting with pick 10 for Clark. He's a decent young kid but I don't value him that highly. Pick 28 is more of the going rate for someone who is an outside mid, has suffered a lot of injuries and can't get on the field.

His first season he played very outside and his disposal was quite erratic. He generally masked his poor kicking by going long down the line but he does have pace and value as an outside midfielder (hopefully his kicking improves). I think there's better mids available at pick 10 in the draft (or wherever our pick ends up after NGA's, compensation etc) and I'm happy to wait for Clark to come out of contract before offering the world for someone coming back home.

We should want value in trades.

I also don't understand the talk of Narkle. He didn't appear particularly special from his career to date and after an ACL among other injuries, I'd think there's far better options around.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

What a load of crap...I wish I was this erratic as a first year player..

His kicking was magnificent every time I saw him as a High School Student playing against men..

The vast majority of those were from 5m out plus a few bombs that bounced through. He had a good debut season and will be a good player but I expect a lot of a top 10 pick. His value is in the 20's at best atm.

I do struggle to see what Clark offers that Western and Walker don’t.
Just out of curiosity Biz, who would you be taking with pick 10?

Neither Walker or Western are expected to be inside the top 10.

Clark was never going to be thrown into the inside mids at Geelong. They have a plethora of older "harder" players than he was last season, but as we have seen, the better of those young outside mids do graduate when the old fellas drop out.

They found a use for Menegola after Ross couldn't find a spot for him but I suppose Biz thinks he's pretty ordinary also. Geelong have a habit of giving the best kids a good grounding in a variety of roles before springing more responsibility on them. Think Menegola, Cam Guthrie, Parfitt, Duncan, Miers. They allow their experienced star players like Danger, Selwood and Ablett to do the bulk of the work supplemented by guys like Dahlhaus before throwing in the kids after they've done an apprenticeship.

My point exactly. Freo have the opportunity to do this over the next few years, a player like Serong or Darcy is always going to demand a spot in the middle, but that gives others of his age a chance to develop. Grabbing a player like Clark is a no-brainer, with the setup we have now. We have seen Brayshaw & Cerra grow into their roles, and this years projects, Henry & Frederick have been given a taste without being pushed too hard.

As much as I really like the idea of Clark coming to us I don't think Pick 10 will get it done and I'm pretty certain this pick is going to be needed to get Joel Western into the Purple. I'm also very wary of dealing with Geelong as they still do not have a specialist ruckman and they're bound to put out feelers to öff limits" Sean Darcy, a Geelong Falcons product, in order to fill this spot on their list. By the way, Jordan Clark does have a brother who played with the Tigers in colts this season though I haven't seen much of him so not sure if he's worth a late pick.

There are a bunch of kids I'd probably rate higher talents than Clark that should be available around pick 10. Nathan O'Driscoll is probably an apt comparison as a West Aussie who plays that outside mid role but can easily go inside and get the ball as someone who loves the physical side of the game and tackling. He's had a great year despite a few injuries and although listed at 187cm, I'd think he's much closer to 190cm now having seem him a few times in person. He wasn't in Twomey's top 30 which was ridiculous as most draft pundits have him top 10 but if he's available to us I wouldn't be unhappy seeing him join his sister in purple.

There are a number of Vic mids who've proven themselves to be fantastic players over the past few years and hopefully we'll see a little more of them in the next couple of months as Vic restrictions ease. Some of those who could fall through to our pick include Tanner Bruhn, Oliver Henry, Archie Perkins and Eddie Ford who've all shown great talent over the past few seasons. The first two are Vic Country kids who've shown in the past that they're less likely to head back to Vic and adapt a bit better to moving away from home.

Denver Grainger-Barrass could fall to our pick to help sure up our tall stocks although after his performance last weekend where we finally got to see him up forward in the all star game, I can't see him dropping that low. Showed some great signs in a half of footy as a forward and kicked a couple of goals.

Jack Carroll is another West Aussie who could come into contention as a big bodied and athletic midfielder with a great kick and composure. He's more of your typical outside mid but he's had a fantastic year and you couldn't ask much more of him. It would have been good to see him in the league side for a game against bigger bodies and see how he handles it but a lot of pundits have him around the 10-15 range.

There's also a few other talls who could be very good around our selection like WA kid Heath Chapman, Nik Cox and Zac Reid. Most, if not all of these guys mentioned are at a minimum on a level pegging with Clark for mine.

Bids on our academy kids are hard to predict but they won't come before our first pick unless someone goes way too hard at them. I wouldn't match a bid at that point. I'd think they're worth a bid in the 20's but it could come later than that, especially for Western who is a bit smaller.

Thanks Biz, I can’t find any reports on the second WA Allstars game, do you have a link?

AFL draft central had a nice write up on the stand out players here. They're normally pretty detailed and give a good insight into how each player went. It should be noted a lot of WA's major draft prospects missed the game (McDonald, O'Driscoll, Carrol, Trew, the Walkers and Western was injured in the first bounce of the 2nd qtr after spending the first in a forward pocket).

Here's the report on the first all star game in case you missed it where Western starred.
