TOPIC: Frederick

One of his problems is that he is a sucker for a dummy. The opposition barely had to try to send him the wrong way. Made me realise just how good the rest of them are at reading what is going to happen. So his training drill should consist of being confronted by a player with the ball, and trying to tackle/coral them. Shouldn't take more than being beaten a few hundred times before he gets the hang of it.

he should stay in the team - you can see glimpses of potential and that’s not going to hit full potential without more game time. Hub training and scratchies won’t help.

and agree, on a couple of occasions last night when he did get the ball, he definitely could have taken an extra step or ten.

3 games in and we’re lucky that someone with his potential is probably being measured against Sturt, Young , Serong.

Crowden and Schultzy started off a bit rusty and now look at them.

MF is going to be a beauty for us.

Think everyone needs to take a real deep breath.

He's a 1st year player and he's played 3 games.

2 of them in wet greasy conditions.

Bewley has been durable enough to play every game this year and maybe he's played 10 in total. And, he's been more than serviceable. He's no superstar, but I'm expecting a lot more from the experienced Aish & Acres at this point of Bewley's development.

The Owl has played 2 games where he's been allowed to 'be the person who he is' look at how quickly he's progressing.

There's been a lot of others in our squad that have had more time , and have done less..... Some of them are starting to show dividends right about now....(Tucker , Tabs, Hughes , Cerra , Brayshaw)

There's a fascination with Cammac at the moment. Well. He's had a fair go, and been found wanting. Do you really want to go back there at the cost of a young up & comers fast tracked development??

Sure, would love nothing more than to see Cammac reach his potential. But is he a 'panacea' for any problem we have at the moment. ??

Not sure.!....and after last n8ght's performance....I'm not to sure what 'the problems' are...?

Micheal Frederick is a speedy, skilled half forward / wing type. We haven't got - nor had - one of them for quite a while.

Is Cammac that??

One of the problems could be that last night's performance was against a sliding circa 15th placed team on the ladder. As much as I loved last night's performance, let's not get too carried away, at least until we can consistently replicate it against top 8 sides, both at home and away.

Agreed Mateba. There is a lot to be excited about, especially a performance like that given our injury list. But we won't match it against the top 4 clubs just yet.
We have a promising group of youngsters, Frederick included, and we need them to develop together. If the injury Gods smile on us and Hamling, Pearce and Logue play most of next season, we will be awesome.
Still, I do find it amazing how well we did against a team that included Scully, O'Meara and Tom Mitchell. If my memory serves me well, all of them traded in by the Hawks, while our midfield all started their careers at Freo.

The unfortunate thing for Freddie is that when Liam Henry is right for a callup he looks the obvious one to make way especially if he can't tidy up his ball handling which is a feature of Henry's game. With him you get the excitement of Freddy but coupled with clean ball handling. Interesting times ahead.

Imagine Tabs at FF, with Henry and Frederick in the pockets.

Fyfe at CHF.

Other teams will be packing their dacks.

Mayhem.

what we really need on the tasty cake we saw last night is the icing of I50 efficiency. 14 shots on goal from 37 entries for a return of 7.6 48 won’t cut it with those in the top 4.

the question is, where does it come from? Walters up forward again, or Henry or Cammac as ins, or...

All the while last night I was thinking , if Jessie Hogan were in that forward line with the amount of forward 50 entries he would have kicked at least 4 or 5 goals because he and Cammac are the best 2 shots on goals we have on our list. And he's capable of bombing them in from outside 50 as well. Not sure how he fits in but last night Lobb was pretty useless as a forward although he did take a tall defender away from Tabs.

I think what excites about the last couple of weeks is that we have cleaned up 2 bogey sides for us while having half our top 20 out through injury.

Have only just watched the game, and am thinking maybe I saw a different game to yous fellas. Some of Frederick's disposal by hand was exceptional, and have been unable to see those occasions when he got sold the dummy. Having said that, i will repeat what I said after last weeks game, give him a spell and bring Henry in for a couple of games.

I watch every game thinking it’s pre-season. The players by and large play like it’s pre-season. The crowds are pre-season. Melbourne clubs have to travel.

It’s the 2021 pre-season. Get some games into Frederick and see what happens.

Watching last night, I was concerned for the kid, he didn't make anything stick,or so it appeared. However I watched the replay in a more relaxed mood and Freddy has a lot of upside. Some of his play was so slick that it was hardly noticeable
until you realise he'd just released the ball to advantage. I think he'll be a gun in a very short space of time.
