TOPIC: Crowd numbers

Another very disappointing crowd at the game just over 20k with a limit around 28 to 30k.

What made it more disappointing was there were quite a few Collingwood supporters. This is a real blight on our supporter base who are not turning upto our games.

I am not sure what the answer is besides the obvious of being a far more successful club , but after a 4 year rebuild gone bad( I recall being told this was our premiership year) and now in ANOTHER rebuild I suspect most supporters have lost faith.

Those in this board will no doubt support the side and pour more money into what has been a poor historically performing club but I suspect many won’t come back for several years.

I think if there was no pandemic as an excuse the crowd numbers we be totally embarrassing for the club as I suspect the numbers would be only marginally better.

We will need more than a few more solid wins to turn this around if we get the rebuild right.

Nah...your numbers are more about pandemic than the way we are playing .
My octogenarian member parents are keeping away, just in case. Many of their 'game day friends ' are doing the same.

And that is totally fair & reasonable.

I am sure the pandemic is the main reason and things would definitely be very different without it.

The world is a scary place right now. Victoria is terrifying and we have been lucky/diligent/careful to avoid a similar situation here, but we are not immune. People are cautious, and with good reason. Cut them some slack.

Get along to the remaining games if you feel you can. Last night was a ripper.

A guy in front of us was getting the chant going and it sounded great!

I think the less than capacity crowd numbers are more a factor of the weight of existing members who have forfeited their seat for credit against next year's membership.

Staying away from potential virus hotspots is the issue for many, some will be protesting the way the club admin has handle things over the last 5 or so years, and maybe a few are protesting the sacking of Lyon. But we do have plenty turning up, and when things get back to normal, post pandemic, the ground won't be big enough.

Also, people are creatures of habit. If the club takes your membership money and send you a card and a fixture, most members will turn up.

If you ask people to think about going, organise who else is going, log onto Ticketmaster and (for some) hand over cash, then you can easily see why that might be a bridge too far for a Sunday or Monday night game in the dead of winter.

But i agree, I’m not sure everyone will come back.

For me it's a combination of the following:
i) Pandemic fears
ii) Poor performance of team and somewhat unattractive game style of most games/teams currently (yesterday's game was actually relatively enjoyable to watch in terms of passages of skilled play put together and the younger members of our team showing they are more than capable).
iii) Disinterest in the 'adjusted' season - think a few have lost interest this year
iv) Late Sunday afternoon not being ideal timing for families etc.
v) Weather forecast
vi) other

Personally I'm happy if people don't turn up. Less crowded, more room for me, more relaxed. Loving it. Please stay away...

Nitpicking - the average attendance numbers for the 2020 home/away games is 3007 (78 games with 234,548 in total). We're way above the curve - way above.

The game day attendances are so bad the AwFL hide them somewhere - go to wiki and you'll see how good we're going.

I think with Fat Clive Palmer in court huffing and puffing to blow the WA border down, most fans are probably scared that him and virus ladden people have infiltrated already and unsure whether Optus will soon become WA's only hot spot... just look at that Vic streaker the other week who'd only been in the state 5 weeks!!

Anyway, I've been to all our games so far and the Carlton game on Friday.

Im in Melbourne and it's scary how quickly things can change. I can undersatnd people not wanting to go to the game even though the numbers are currently low when you know that an outbreak takes two weeks to register on the daily stats.

Im with RR Ive been to 2 of our 3 games and loving the extra room and no queues. Easy to get in the ground grab a beer pie or hotdog, easy to go to the dunny for a Brodie Grundy, its all good.

loving it!
