TOPIC: Injured Dockers v Weagles

I think we are being deliberately vague but if every other club can lob 2 week ranges at injuries, with some degree of accuracy, then we must be incompetent.

I tend to agree with you about the deliberate vagueness, Shane.

I would also suggest that ‘TBC’ is being used very deliberately as a general catch-all. There’s obviously a very big gap between say, me recovering every-day fitness from a broken ankle (fell off a ladder) and being super conditioned match fit for modern day AFL footy.

It could just be over-cautiousness.

Cautious about what? You're not held to the estimate. The AFL just want supporters kept in the loop, they don't force injured players onto the ground.

You just can't please you guys. When the club just put 2-4 weeks and left it there for the whole season you weren't happy, and now that they admit they have no idea, you aren't happy.

Nobody is happy that we have so many injuries. Everyone agrees we need to manage injuries better. We need to stop being so desperate to get our best 22 on the park every week. If they need another week or two, give them another week or two - even if that means telling Fyfe that he is not playing...

You and Noddy can't not be pleased.

If you say 2-4 weeks, and the player is still out after 3 and not likely to make it by 4, you can put something on the website - there was a complication and he won't be ready. If it gets to week 8 then you made a poor diagnosis.

If you do that every week for several seasons in a row then it's not just an unprecedented series of complications, it's you being wrong a lot.

Don't forget that it's an obligation of the clubs to provide this information.

They are required to provde an estimated return date when they have one. There's no obligation to make one up where they aren't sure.

Which of our current TBAs do you suspect the club secretely has a firm estimate that they are hiding from the fans?

I would probably like them to have some sort of estimate or idea what we could reasonably expect.
Does anyone know what is wrong with Hamling’s ankle and why it’s now inconceivable to give an outcome. This year next year the year after. If he’s gone for the season let us know. If he might not come back let us know.

Yes, Shane, it is a curse, being easily pleased. Yet, for reasons I can't understand, Margetts consistently fails to please me. And I'm not pleased that there is no mongrel about Freo. And I'm not pleased that we couldn't change our game plan after quarter time. And I'm not pleased that we have so many injuries.

And you are right, I shouldn't be pleased by the club's injury reports. A plain honest assessment with a best-guess prognosis would be nice. And trivially easy to do, since the club doctor probably gives one to Peter Bell each week.

And I'm not pleased about Blakely. When I look at the promising mid-tier players we got a few years ago, and see that Ed Langdon, Hayden Crozier, and Lachie Weller have gone elsewhere and that Blakely has failed to come on, it really annoys me. Maybe this is Blakely's "40 days in the wilderness" after which he comes back and fulfills his potential, but if not we have wasted the development of 4 players, and that is the sort of thing that will lead the club into the wilderness.

The AwFL Integrity unit should knock this stupidity on the head. The club has to file injury updates weekly, it is their obligation as part of a national competition. They should bring in one doctor, have him/her assess each injury and then fine the club for each inaccurate or evasive report. If Freo persist, bring in that doctor again and add two zeros to their fines.

Who cares about the supporters (easily replaced with cardboard pictures and canned cheering). The Integrity unit is there for the betting agencies - punters won't run their families into the poorhouse if they can't trust the info at club level.

It really does look better when they put timeframes on things. Still not sure why they don’t just write “season” after Hamling’s name but hear it is.
INJURY LIST
Reece Conca (hamstring) – test
Nat Fyfe (hamstring) – 1 week
Jesse Hogan (calf) – 1-2 weeks
Sam Sturt (ankle) – 1-2 weeks
Stefan Giro (ankle) - 2-3 weeks
Griffin Logue (toe) – 8-10 weeks
Hayden Young (ankle) - 8-12 weeks
Joel Hamling (ankle) – TBA
Sam Switkowski (back) – TBA
Alex Pearce (ankle) – season

There'd have to - at some point - have to be a discussion about Alex Pearce wouldn't there??..

If he rei-njured from here...well...he'd be on shakey ground huh...?

Hamlings 28 next year, big question mark on Pearce, Logue's durability a bit questionable... we'd have to be 'in the market for a young tall backman wouldn't we???
